I have 15 years of experience in software dev and engineering management so I hope this qualifies me to give the following advice to the vast majority of the people frequenting this forum:

    - Stop posting your salary online and stop 'flexing' your numbers
    - Stop comparing your salary with others and then getting depressed about it
    - If you are new to the industry, go for the workplace that will help you learn good process, best practices, has good mentors instead of going for a fuck shop that just gives you a flashy salary.
    - Learn to control your damn ego and stop boasting your higher salary or ridiculing others for their lower salary. And stop condemning others for their choice of career paths.

I started in 2014 as a fresh graduate, with a 120K salary. What’s funny is during the interview they asked how much salary I expect and I said I’d be happy if I get something around 60K. Although , the offer came with the amount doubled. After many years, I resigned and came to SG. The same company group acquired a company in SG recently and asked me if I want to join back, I said yes. And once again, exactly the same happened! This time not in Rs, but in SGD 😆

it’s mostly depends on the company and their vision I guess.

I think it is a motivational factor to see numbers (rather than something to be depressed about)

Salary is something everyone can achieve..not something you are born with

If someone else can get a higher salary doing the same, then you too can do the same. And it is good to know how much people are getting paid in the outside world.

People in the management roles do not like it when people get to know their true values

I hope you are not that kind

"People in the management roles do not like it when people get to know their true values"
I hope by "values" you meant salary figures. First of all I am not a HR manager. I think you confused engineering management with HR management. In my role I dont even know the salary any dev I directly manage makes (nor do i want to know).

Baseline salary or average salary for a particular a position in a country could be a good metric for motivation. Not the individual salary flexing that you see all around and the toxicity that comes with it.

How many people will honestly be happy for someone else making a higher salary? 99% this will be clouded with jealousy.
How many people earning a higher salary who openly announce it do so with the intent of motivating others? 99% of the time it is done for boasting, and to belittle others.
The toxicity that comes with 'flexing', could impact the healthy culture in a team environment.

You don't have to worry about jealousy bn  most people don't know others personally here.

Anyway, if anyone feels jealous after seeing the numbers here, then those numbers are not meant for them

If someone feel like they deserve more, and they want to reach that level, they can start doing a bit more work and come.out their comfort zones..

My comment about management was in general...may be you are an exception to it
