I agree with you. :nerd: But lots of my friends working as software engineers said that they were asked LOTS of questions at their interviews, regarding various concepts and the ones who performed best got the jobs regardless of their university..?

you can't test a person 100% from interviews, when interviews are conducted they do not target very much at programming language skills but basically analytical skills are targeted. So when analytical skills are considered basically the institute is taken as the basics(but if you fail the tests institution will not consider and you are out), and after end of probation we can get the real picture of the person and according to the performance increments are granted.

For example some people failed to write a simple for loop at the interviews, so they are out from the interview. Also some joins the company and after 2-3 weeks leaves the company saying that the work is too hard for them. So we give some serious weight to institute.

yeah, I have my personal experience, I can say that more than 50% have failed. Its just to fill out a method to print array elements in reverse order. Its not on the question paper, but in the interview.

IT workers enjoy good starting salaries
Salaries for IT workers are probably the best of all industries in the
    country.
For each job category, the minimum starting salary, maximum and the
mode (the salary band most cited by employers), were provided by the
employers. Job categories that are irrelevant to this level of experience
are left blank. What is shown in Table 3 below is the mid point of salary
bands that employers were asked to choose.
A newly qualified professional filling a Programmer/ Software
Engineer position, in any one of the three sectors, can expect between
Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 20,000 as a starting salary. That is the most selected
band (the table shows the mid point of that band which is Rs. 15,000). In
some extreme cases employers, particularly in the IT sector, are ready to
pay as much as between Rs. 61,000 and Rs. 100,000.
