Apparently Yes... Soft top boards tend to be slippery when wet and waxing provides the additional grip. There's a base coat wax and the regular wax. The basecoat is more solid than the standard surf wax. You can only do the surf wax coat if you choose. This is done in a grid pattern. There are videos on the YouTube explaining how to.

PS: Caveat - The above answer is not from me - but provided by my 18+ year old.

    It's around 3$ right.
I just taught that it's just only the surf board which is expensive this much.
However there are many things right. I also got some surf wear as well.
Complete bill is around one lakh for just beginner surfing, plus 3000/- LKR per one hour for the instructor.

Machan one more thing , I'm in Panadura, is that dangerous to go alone without an instructor ? The instructor prices are high, however surf teaching is a hard job, need lots of strength so I'm not saying that charges are non reasonable, but if I can learn from youtube and self it's fine too right.

Learning to Surf can be difficult. Why don't you try in a safe stretch of the sea first. If you can keep your balance well probably easy to pick up. But it's not easy to get into the standing position on the board and hold for a beginner. It could be worth if you can go for a couple of lessons to learn the technique. There are basic how-to on the web. I cannot surf nor tell you how to. :P
Find out whether there are any other friends to join. Hope you are a good swimmer.

I can manage up to 4Km on the pool but never tried at the sea that much distance.
