Tilak Karunaratne resigns from UNP

United National Party Treasurer Tilak Karunaratne resigned from the party in July 27.

He attributed his resignation to the following reasons:

1. Ranil Wickremesinghe scoffing at the victories of the Security Forces in Thoppigala

2. Insulting the Maha Sangha by calling them a corrupted lot.

3. Degrading the UNP's image through the Ranil-Mangala agreement.

Karunaratne who resigned from all his posts in Wickremesinghe's UNP is expected to join the party's Democratic Wing led by Karu Jayasuriya and Hemakumara Naanayakkara.
