Kalmunai Police have stated that the two Tamil youths who were shot dead by the STF on the 25th night at Thurainilaveli lagoon in Batticaloa were LTTE cadres wanted for the killing of SP M.L. Jamaldeen.
The two were identified as V. Puvaneendram alias Kandhapodiyan and P. Loganathan alias Ariyan.
On the 14th of this month, the Police took into custody three people stating that they were responsible for the killing of SP Jamaldeen. One of them was an LTTE cadre and the three are on a detention order.
These two LTTE cadres had fired at a group of STF personnel patrolling in the lagoon area on this night. The STF had fired back killing them on the spot. The STF recovered a T56 assault rifle and 25 ammo from their possession according to Kalmunai Police.
SP Jamaldeen was killed on 4th May this year while he was coming from shopping at his home town in Maruthamunai near Masjid ul Kabeer Mosque.
