UNP names General Fonseka as presidential candidate

The UNP working committee today endorsed General Sarath Fonseka as their common presidential candidate. However three UNP members, including MP Johnston Fernando and Azath Saly objected to the decision. UNP Leader Ranil Wickramasingha announced the UNP decision at a press briefing.

JVP invites Fonseka to be their common candidate

The JVP has formally invited General Sarath Fonseka to be their common candidate at the Presidential elections. JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayaka said that talks with the General in this regard was successful. He also said that the JVP will not have talks with the UNP on the election.

SLFP (M wing) led by Mangala endorses Fonseka

The SLFP Mahajana wing led by Mangala Samarweera has endorsed General Sarath Fonseka as their common Presidential candidate. Samarweera made the announcement at a press briefing in Colombo today. The SLFP Mahajana wing is also part of the UNP alliance.
