Here's the thing: Almost all of this stuff is made in China. A lot of time actually several big name brands are made in the exact same factory, the same production lines. In many cases what separates $10 frames and mid-market range frames, is simply just branding. And the companies that you think you are buying from, aren't frame makers or even fashion designers.
They're just marketing companies.
What you are paying 5x more money for goes to all the full page ads in glossy magazines, goes to billboards, goes to getting celebrities to wear the product. The lowest part of the cost of almost any frame is the actual manufacturing.
The main reason to buy a brand name is because there is often no easy way to tell what you're getting in that $10 frame. Some are solid, others have lots of corners cut in terms of material quality. A $10 frame is actually often either a $0.05 frame, or a $0.25 frame. The latter might be great, and the former is probably going to fall off your face in a few weeks.
If this bothers you, go on Google and look for frame makers in your country. These won't be cheap, but you'll be supporting artists, small business, and ingenuity that's part of your own economic circle.
