I use Kanotix Thorhammer Live CD for Internet surfing, because I know Linux viruses cannot harm WinXP generally. It's difficult to change to full time Linux because Linux does not have alternatives for well known Win programs.

Ex: Corel (graphics), SPSS (statistics), or eBook readers like Teton Viewer. Most of the indexed eBooks on Medicine is Win Compatible. Difficult to find Linux substitutes for them.

As far as the GUI of Kanotix, I absolutely love it, and the stability of the system is mind boggling. I only had number crashes less than a finger count for last 2-3 years with Kanotix. With WinZP I have that number per week.

i got da ubuntu 8.10 cd. i tried it out without installing n now my internet dusnt work on vista. but it works on ubuntu trial. any suggestions?

u r so lucky wht is the model ? USR / Huawei ?

8.10 got sw wht perfect Driver sup.. (ny way better than 8.04)

Ubuntu 8.10 Released 2008 OCTOMBER, and WHEN was the M$its Vista Came? (2007) so wht is newer ?

Mint is a custom ubuntu distro with KDE4 and the non free codecs installed. So you're still using ubuntu under the hood.

i dont know how to check what model it is.

yea yea it works fine on ubuntu but ubuntu just screwed up vista for me. but the internet is working fyn on vista since this morning, i didnt do anything. lol

squshfs or aufs. That's what live CD distros uses to compress the image.
