for apt based systems i use keryx, for yums/rpms, its nta prob, just DL and double click

I'm designing a DVD dat contains common FOSS softs, as soon as i launch da fosslanka.org, you can have it for free. untill then you can hv any soft @ TLC (linux center)

Debian based linux command

I'm familiar with RPM based linux environment like Fedora,RHEL, CentOS.

But newer for Debian Linux.

Can someone tell me similar commands for following in Ubuntu

rpm
yum
service
chkconfig
tail
chmod
chown
chgrp

the rest are the same for all linux distros

ayyo have a prob with my ADSL usb modem

What's your internet connection ? what hardware do you use?
You can get linux CD/DVDs from the linux center at nugegoda.

As i mentioned earlier I still cannot configure my ADSL modem. Its the commenly distributed modem in SLT (Prolink h901) in that driver CD have a folder for linux but don't understand what to do. Please help me someone coz this windows sucks and use only to surf.........Aw forgot to tell you. already tried ubudsl but ddnt work!!!!!

If the driver is in the CD, yo can compile and install from that. Zip and upload the entire linux folder to sendspace and give the link.
Also get a command prompt and run this command and post the result here :
uname -a

Give it a few minutes. It will go to the CLI mode, turn off the various services and then power down.

Mepix or Mepis ?
Mepis version 8 is quite good. Its based on Debian Lenny and has a lot of hardware drivers in built.
Its on KDE 3.5 but has OOO 3 and Firefox 3.

next time, in order to shut down, try this :
From a command line, run :
shutdown -hP
