machan go here (http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/graphics-cards,1.html) , and select a chart that suits (ie: according to your resolution..etc) you. and then count the 'value index' for each of the above cards, where the value index for a card = FPS/Price.

then the card that have the highest index would have the most value. you can look at the indexes and make up your mind on what to buy. but i am sure that there are many more cards in the market. so if you can get there models and prices as well.

good luck! btw tell us what you buy after you do buy something :)

ASUS HD4830 > BFG 9800GT = XFX 9800GT

P.S : You have not given the exact model of the XFX card (there are so many variants of the 9800 GT with slightly different Core and memory clocks, BFG has a slightly OCed Core and Memory, if you decide to go with a 9800GT then compare core/mem values of BFG and XFX to decide which is better)

    what wold you select

As I said, nVida is perhaps better supported; and with things like CUDA and PhysX , nVidia products seem appealing than ATI offerings in a technical stand point (if you are in to GPU programing n stuff then nVidia is better). But in pure performance/gaming point of view, ATI wins.

@the moment im usin XP SP2.thinking to upgrade to WIN 7
Don't worry about driver support, I was just saying... Even on linux ATI cards work pretty well, but getting them to work is sometimes bit tricky, not as straight forward as nVidia. With Windows, there is absolutely nothing to worry about.

    how can you say

All computer components, including graphic cards are getting cheaper with time. If you wait 3 months you can certainly get a better deal, perhaps even an nVidia GTX 2xx series or an ATI 5xxx series card, probably for the same price. If you can wait a while then I say wait, cos nvidia 9xxx series is already being replaced with GTX 2xx cards and pretty soon ATI 4xxx series will be replaced with 5xxx cards.
