Who owns Sinhala / Tamil new year?

hmm..
in our area.
i didnt see any catholics, muslims or tamils,
celebrating new year on apirl 14th..
but we share it with them buy sending a food plate to them..
and they also share their events like Christmas, Nombi and etc..
with us to..
so we have our own events..
they have their own events..
we share them with each other..
so no problems..
BTW is Tamils celebrate new year on April 14th..?

Because of it Buddhist Tempels also have this statues of Hindu Gods.
I think this word evolved as Sinhala/Hindu new year because of that!

The influence of Hindu Idol's in temples and the incersation of them began in the era of King Sri Wickrama Raja singhe

Yes, no kidding. Till that time all "kovils" was placed out side of the temples and operated. (visit the Anceint cities and temples and see the ruins has the Kovils OUTSIDE the temple...never inside of it)

When Raja Singhe was fighting the Britsh, he was running out of men and power and sent out a SOS message to the Indian Maharaja's whome he has "imported" wive's from.

But "ALAS" they did help too late, but one of the condition they put was to intergrate the Kovils' inside to the temples. (you can read and get more information on this devestating "deal" by going through chapters in "mahawanshaya" regarding the Kandy era)

Ok, I know, I am refering to too many books . But let me recommend you all a series of books (18 Volumes) if you have time to read and money to buy it.

"Mahaweli Wanshaya" 18 Volumes(books). Cost around 2850/- per book (5 years ago) and available at Mahawelu Kendraya and I think they have these books in reference section at the Colombo Library.

I can lend you the complete series if you are genuinly interested on learning A-Z about Sri Lankan History and on the solem promise of that you are GOING TO RETURN IT

BTW. Each book is around 1200 Pages so, that's gonna be a lot of reading

In my personal opinion, I see a discripency here.

Sinhala - a nationality
Hindu - A religion
Tamil - a nationality.

However., the populer term of use is Sinhala - Hindu New year.

As far as I understand, this celebration can trase it's root's into the ancient King's time of Sri Lanka and as per the records (and as far as I know) it was started somewhere during the rane of King Parakramabahu of the Anuradhapura era.

So why did they start this ? (according to the "mahaweli wanshaya - which chapter I can't remember.. I think it's volume 11 or something)

They said, the king brought hoards and hoards of Indian slaves to build tanks and do other petty things around the country. Yes, also the kings has said to have had a special nag of getting down Indian Princesses for his personal brothel

Although by those days, the Jullian calender which we follow now was un-heard of, the Sri Lankan people was following the Moon Calender so did the Indians.

(From what I read) they say the King has named the New year day (of the moon calender) as Sinahlese and "Hindu" new year to satisfy the slaves comman wealth and the princesses in his brothel.

So why did the king "DID NOT" named it as Buddist-Hindu new year???????

SIMPLE., becuase those days there was "hardly" any other religion than "buddism" which was followed by Sri Lankans

so most of the tamils r hindu right.. i think dis depends on da country or something...

and early days wen there’s no war between sinhala and tamils dey might have done this Aluth Avuruda together.. and coz of this dey cal it sinhala and hindu aluth avuruda from those days..

Machang Lord Krishna's birthday falls aroung July, Aug, Sep.

Some articles say it's September. And some scientific evidences prove that it's on the 8th day of Hindu month of "Sharwan" which is in our calendar Aug-September.

I didn't find any article mentioning it's in April machang.. Ask your friend again
