yes there is. according to Sony the next generation console is going to be
released around 2013/14. but I am not sure about Microsoft's decision regarding this. will see. anyway the official statement of the company says
which develops the Unreal Engine. in these days Unreal Engine 4th version
is being developed and which is going to be released for next generation
consoles. so definitely there is a clue about 8th generation consoles.
according to sony again the life cycle of console would be around 8 years.
so don't worry just buy a console.
yeah I got the point but I would rather consider the fun than quality
when it comes to indie and arcade games. in fact wii is not for action and
first person shooting games. it's purely for arcade and indie games.

**Most multi-platform games are release first to xbox 360 and then to other platforms. ex. COD MW 2, 3
