I thought the age limit for consenting sex is 16 (in SL, what you pointed is US) I may be wrong...up to what age people are considered children in SL?
Of course over 18 is considered as civillians and hence adults. + permission to marry and watch porn.

BTW, what was the season and episode of that house MD ?

I'm not very sure either. But to be on the safe side, people better consider it as 18. By the way, isn't there some law saying people from 16 to 18 can marry with the parents permission in certain cases? I'm not sure if it's in Sri Lanka or somewhere else.

It's funny how you are a minor a day below 18, but an adult the next day.:lol::lol:

It was in season three. The episode was called "Lines in the sand" or something. (ep. 7 or 8 maybe) I can't remember exactly. She kept stalking him and begging him to love her and so on.. In the end he figures out the crush was caused by some sort of allergy caused by pollen.

Ok ... I'll make this easy and simple:

    If you are above 18 ඕබ 18ට වැඩි නම්
Having sex with a minor (below age 16) is rape
    ළමුන් සමග ලින්ගික සම්බන්දතා වල යෙදීම අනිවාර්ය දූෂණයකි
You will be convicted of rape
    ඔබට ස්ත්‍රී දූෂණ චෝදනා එල්ලවේ

So don't even think about it

    :yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes:

I wish people would get some sort of education about the basic laws. If you have sex with a minor, they will file a rape case against you, as simple as that. It does not matter if the underage person was consenting or even begging you for it. It does not matter whether they were male or female. In the eyes of the law, you become a rapist as soon as the deed is done.

    :P:P

Maybe up to the age of 18 you are considered a minor. Does anybody remembers the HOUSE MD episode where a 17 year old girl has a crush on House, and he tells her he doesn't want anything to do with her, and it could anyway land him in jail since she is a minor? (Even though she's only a few months short of 18..)
    :baffled::baffled:

there is a law that is before any pseudo laws, that is the law of nature,

do you people realize that if nature had a law like 'thou shalt not screw the minor',
your entire family tree might have been ended up as spilled sperm on the grass/ground ?

where do you draw the line? :) you change the color of your font, the size ..you still don't seem to get your point straight.
so what is it about me that makes me inhuman, as apposed to that is about you, that makes you human?

you are certainly human, a human tool to the law. you should be out there, Handing out speed tickets to the drivers.

Well, there is this too. I think our species were much better the way nature originally designed us. But then we evolved, (or Eve ate the apple.. whichever way you like to look at it) and started wearing clothes, and generally became much worse both in action and motives than nature intended.

So now, we have all these weird laws to protect us humans from ourselves.:D:D:D:D

Harmless being the operative word there. This law is made on the assumption that the minor will be harmed physically or psychologically by the act. In the absence of a better assumption I'd say that is the best we could do.

It may be wrong in certain cases. But in general, without a law like that somebody will definitely be harmed. Better safe than sorry, I guess.

we evolved only physically ..not mentally ..we still want the same things we wanted 50000 years ago..but we have only developed a stronger sense of taste. taste in food, entertainment, comfort, even sexual desires. laws emerged to protect ourselves and thanks to some laws we are protected. but we can't deny what we are. we cannot deny our senses. we are born sinners with inherent seven deadly sins.
no law of so called humanity will block that out :)

about eve eating the apple, I suppose the tree of knowledge is what opened the doors into senses. before we had senses, we desired nothing. we were pure. now there's a devil and a jesus in each of us.

how can they decide what harms your mind? we are not that simple :P but you can hardly draw a line between sanity and insanity. the latter is much interesting though.

I prefer the theory where all those little monkeys came down from their trees and decided two legs were better to hop on than four. :):)

We want the same things, yes. But now we are better equipped to take what we want by force than our ancestors were. Ergo, we need the laws. The sinners who would harm others have to be blocked by the rules and regulations to prevent the society from falling apart.

"Survival of the fittest" is all very well in the jungle for the little monkeys. But as for human beings who have managed to invent all those nukes to kill each other.. We are just not as civilized as those monkeys to just abide by naturals law.:lol::lol::lol:

anyway, with all the nukes and and advanced tools, we are still going after the same things..so we are still monkeys on two limbs, playing with gunpowder.

coming back to the point, who did this kondoktor and the jailbait harm? effing nobody! so now they are paying for things never did, out of their nature, because of insane laws. Rape without the consent of one party is one thing, but this is not a crime. it's what they are. they were practicing the most beautiful act of nature in the back of a bus :P

It is interesting, but much less predictable or governable than sanity. Sanity is safer for the society, hence the preference for it.

I believe they draw the line by general principles. Take this example. We know rape to be traumatic. So we have laws to deter rapist or punish them. We also have a general belief that rape is more traumatic for women than men. So we tend to be harsher judges on man-on-woman rape than vice versa. But for all you know, a man who was raped by a woman might be equally traumatized. (I don't know if that is physically or psychologically possible, since I'm not a man. But I just took it as a general example.)

all the laws have a point given that we don't live in world where everybody is considerate about others feelings. but you can't evaluate everybody by the same set of rulers. there are many people that suffer for what this world has become.
for all these social standards and virtues and beliefs.
we human, who are gifted with a taste for everything and so rich of imagination are caged inside this social pit. so woe to the unfit, for only the fittest will survive.
and trust the natural selection to save the world at the end of the day.
but like I said already, Nature will always find a way, and It has so far in many ways.

But for all we know, he may have coerced the girl into the act, or forced her, or managed to trick her in some way into doing it. A fifteen year old does not, under most circumstances, have enough discernment to know whether something is good or bad for him/herself. (And today, we are more immature than our ancestors were at 15, 200 years ago. The more developed human mind becomes, the more time it takes.)

The act may have warped ideas about sex in the girl's mind for the rest of her life, or she may have contracted a disease (a 15 year old would not really have any ideas about the risks of STDs and protection.) She may get pregnant, and 15 is not old enough to deal with that. Or he may not have harmed her at all. But the point is, we do not know. And if we allow one single incident, then we have to allow it all, and that would definitely end up hurting some child somewhere. So we have to draw the line somewhere. I think that is the logic behind this. :):)
