Hamburg director confirms interest in Van der Vaart

    190906hp2.jpg

Hamburg sporting director Frank Arnesen has confirmed that the club remain interested in re-signing Tottenham attacking midfielder Rafael van der Vaart.

The Netherlands international recently confessed his enduring love for the Bundesliga outfit, where he enjoyed three successful seasons before moving to Real Madrid in 2008, but insisted that there has been no contact with his former side.

In addition, Klaus-Michael Kuhne, who bankrolls Hamburg, subsequently stated that the club had no interest in Van der Vaart, but when Arnesen was asked by reporters at a press conference if that was the case, the Dane replied: "No, it's not true."

The former Chelsea man refused to comment further on the issue, though, and would not confirm if Van der Vaart was one of Hamburg's principal transfer targets.

The 29-year-old arrived at White Hart Lane from Madrid in 2010 and has racked up 24 goals in 61 Premier League appearances thus far.

Prandelli: Balotelli must learn to accept defeat

Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has said that Mario Balotelli must learn to accept defeat after his side succumbed to a 4-0 loss at the hands of Spain in the Euro 2012 final.

The Manchester City forward stormed down the tunnel at the end of the match, revealing his unhappiness at the nature of the defeat, although he did return to collect his runners-up medal at the Olympic Stadium in Kiev.

The 21-year-old refused to speak with reporters as the team left the stadium, and Prandelli has said the experience will only make him stronger.

"There are times when you have to hold your hands up and accept defeat," he told reporters. "Sometimes you must say your opponent was better than you. I told Mario that these are experiences you have to deal with and have to accept.

"But you also have to make sure this helps you going forward and you can grow from the experience. This has happened to a number of players, and will happen again, but this is what sport is all about.

"We've had a terrific European Championship and the only regret is the fact we didn't have a few extra days to rest up before this game," Prandelli concluded.

Ramsey 'delighted' to be part of Team GB

    160767hp2.jpg

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has expressed his delight at being called up by coach Stuart Pearce to represent Team GB at this summer's Olympic Games.

Ramsey was one of five Welsh players to make the squad and will now join up with his team-mates to prepare for group games against Senegal, Uruguay and the United Arab Emirates.

And the 21-year-old says he is looking forward to taking part in the Olympics and gaining the support of a partisan home crowd.

"I'm delighted to be a part of it," he told Arsenal's official website. "Playing in the Olympics will be a great experience and I am looking forward to it so much. It's fair to say that this could be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

"I haven't played under Stuart Pearce before so that is something to look forward to as well. And looking at the squad of players we have I think we have a lot of quality in there. Now we need to work together over the next few weeks and get an understanding of each other. If we do that then I'm sure we can do well, especially with home advantage.

"It will be a good experience and a different experience to play in the Olympics, being part of a British team and playing alongside some of the English players too.

Ramsey made his debut for the Welsh national team back in 2008, a year after Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs retired from international football.

And the Arsenal starlet is relishing the chance to play alongside such a prestigious icon of the Welsh game.

"And of course Ryan Giggs will be there too," he said. "He retired from international football before I got into the Wales team and he's an absolute icon in Welsh football.

"He's done it all and most players would like to play alongside him so hopefully I'll get my chance. I can certainly learn from him while I'm with the Great Britain squad."

Galliani: Ibrahimovic will 100 percent remain at AC Milan

    170805hp2.jpg

AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani insists that there is no chance of Zlatan Ibrahimovic being allowed to leave San Siro this summer.

Having resisted the temptation to sell Thiago Silva to Paris Saint-Germain for 46 million euros, it has been reported that the allegedly cash-strapped Rossoneri are considering cashing in on their 30-year-old Swedish striker.

Ibrahimovic's agent claimed on Monday that he could offer no guarantee that his client would still be at Milan next season, but Galliani has wasted little time in weighing in on the issue, claiming the forward is going nowhere.

"We don't have any problems with him," the Rossoneri chief told Sky Sport24 on Monday evening. "He will 100 percent remain at Milan."

Galliani also stated that Thiago Silva is now untouchable, with the Brazil international having signed a contract extension until 2017, and ruled out the possibility of the club making a move for Palermo defender Matias Silvestre.

"Now he [Silva] is a bulletproof player," the 67-year-old boasted. "Silvestre will not arrive. We already have Thiago Silva."

It was reported earlier this summer that PSG was also interested in Ibrahimovic, but the Ligue 1 outfit denied any interest in the former Barcelona striker.

Lavezzi: I joined Paris Saint-Germain to win titles

    185144hp2.jpg

Ezequiel Lavezzi says he was tempted to join Paris Saint-Germain because of his desire to win trophies.

The attacker brought his five-year stay with Napoli to an end to join the French side on Monday, and he wasted no time in expressing excitement over the Ligue 1 outfit's "project".

"PSG's project really attracted me," he told reporters at a press conference.

"I have the opportunity here to express myself at a club that's on the rise and that will continue to make steps forward. I have the chance to win titles here and I want to play a part in future successes."

Lavezzi also left Serie A because Paris is "a city where everybody wants to live."

"[Javier] Pastore told me a lot of good things about the club and about the city," he said. "We talked about PSG when we were with the national team. I will try to have a close relationship with the fans, just like I had at Napoli."

:(:sorry:Real Betis to retire Miki Roque's shirt

    125769hp2.jpg

Real Betis has announced that it will retire the No. 26 jersey in honor of Miki Roque, who passed away last month, aged 23.

The defender lost his battle with pelvic cancer on June 24 and Spain internationals Sergio Ramos and Cesc Fabregas were among those to pay tribute to the former Liverpool man.

At a memorial mass at the Benito Villamarin on Monday attended by Betis officials and approximately 1,000 fans, it was confirmed that the club will retire Roque's shirt.

The center back made 12 appearances for the Liga outfit after arriving in Seville from Liverpool in 2009, spending a year with the B team before being integrated into the senior squad.

Roque, who was capped three times by his country's Under-19 side, was diagnosed with cancer during a routine check-up on a back problem.

    RVP Not For Sale

    robinvanpersiecelebvtottenham_576x324.jpg

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood insists the club "are not in the remotest bit interested" in selling striker Robin Van Persie, while dismissing claims of a transfer offer from Juventus.
Van Persie's future at the Emirates has been the subject of much debate in recent months as the Dutchman enters the final year of his Arsenal contract.

Hill-Wood denied reports of a failed €10 million bid from Juventus, and despite interest from Manchester City, Paris-Saint Germain, Real Madrid and Barcelona, the Gunners remain resolute in their desire to keep Van Persie in north London.

"As far as I am aware, nobody has made any offer for him and he is away so we are not in any dialogue at all.

"We are not in the remotest bit interested in selling him," Hill-Wood is quoted as saying in the Mirror newspaper.

Meanwhile, widespread reports in the English press claim Van Persie is set to hold decisive contract talks over the phone with Arsenal this week, while the 28-year-old continues his post-Euro 2012 holiday.
