Ancelotti denies Paris Saint-Germain interest in Pirlo and Van Persie

Carlo Ancelotti has dismissed reports linking Paris Saint-Germain with moves for Andrea Pirlo and Robin van Persie.

The French giant has been suggested as a potential destination for the forward, who revealed last week that he will not renew his contract with Arsenal, as the trainer is reportedly keen to increase his attacking options. The Juventus midfielder, who played under Ancelotti at AC Milan between 2001 and 2009, has also been mooted as a potential target for PSG, but the 53-year-old asserted that neither player is part of his plans.

"Van Persie is not a target of ours, but I think he is for other clubs," he told a press conference. "Pirlo is an interesting player for any club, but I have had the chance to coach him for eight years and that is enough."

Ancelotti was then questioned about the state of play regarding negotiations between PSG and Pescara for midfield starlet Marco Verratti, who is also being tracked by the Old Lady.

"We have spoken with Pescara, and now we must wait a few days," he added. "I have not spoken with him, I have only watched some of his matches from last season.

"I do not think there will be any problems. If he arrives, we will have two players for every midfield position. But he is a very young player, a prospect for the future and an investment, so we could sign one more midfielder."

Tax issue forced Barcelona exit, claims Keita

    160109hp2.jpg

Seydou Keita has revealed that he failed to reach an agreement with Barcelona over a new contract because of a tax issue.

The 32-year-old completed a transfer to Chinese Super League outfit Dalian Aerbin over the weekend to bring an end to a four-and-a-half year spell in Catalunya, but he admits extending his stay at the club was well within his sights.

"Right until the end, Barcelona and I tried to reach an agreement, but we didn't succeed. That's how it is. It was a tax problem," Keita was quoted as saying by L'Equipe. "I had a great time at Barca. I've loved the simplicity and humility of the club, the players. I'll never forget that."

Keita put pen to paper on a lucrative deal to play in China, but the midfielder insists that money was not the sole motivation behind his move to Dalian.

"Yes, I will earn money in China, and this could be my last contract, but that's not the only thing. I'm still ambitious," he concluded.

David Dein expects Van Persie to leave Arsenal

Former Arsenal vice chairman David Dein expects Robin van Persie to leave the club this summer but says the Gunners will do "all they can" to keep him.

The Netherlands striker, who has just one year remaining on his contract, signaled his intention not to renew his deal in a statement on his personal website last week. The 28-year old striker has been strongly linked to a number of clubs including Serie A champion Juventus and Arsenal's Premier League rival Manchester City.

Given that the Dutchman could leave on a free transfer at the end of next season, Dein believes it is vital that the north London outfit resolve the issue quickly.

"He has had such a wonderful season and he's been there eight years. He's the club captain, he means a lot to the club and to the fans," Dein told reporters. "Once a player comes out and says something like that it's normally the prelude to a departure. But no doubt they will do all they can to try and keep him and make sure he sees out his last year.

"All I would hope, for the stability of the club, is whether he stays or whether he goes, it happens quickly. You don't want to see what happened last year when you had Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas stringing it out.

"Clubs this week are going back for preseason training. You want to have a settled squad. I hope that whatever happens with Robin, it happens quickly."

Totti: Roma needs new signings to compete with Inter, Juventus and AC Milan

    196570hp2.jpg

Francesco Totti feels that Roma needs new signings if it is to fight for silverware in the 2012-13 campaign.

The Giallorossi have already brought in Dodo from Corinthians and made Marquinho's stay at the club permanent, but the iconic attacker feels they still need a few more signings to compete with the Serie A elite.

"We already have quite a good team, but we could do with some new additions. We need some important signings in order to be able to compete for the Scudetto with Juventus, AC Milan and Inter," Totti stated at a press conference. "I won't go into names, but you definitely need big players if you want to win something. Let's wait and see what happens.

"Is Roma in for a transitional year? I don't think the fans want another year like last term."

Roma finished seventh in Serie A last season and missed out on a Europa League spot.

Giggs: I couldn't turn down Olympics chance

    196469hp2.jpg

Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs has promised to make the most of appearing for Team GB at the Olympics after failing to make an international tournament appearance with Wales.

The 38-year-old made his Wales debut in 1991 but retired from international football in 2007 having failed to help his side to their first major tournament since the World Cup in 1958.

And Giggs, who has been appointed as team captain for London 2012, says he is relishing the opportunity to finally make his tournament debut.

"I didn't quite get to a major tournament with Wales, which will always remain a big disappointment," Giggs told reporters.

"But it is great to be involved in the tournament environment - I've not experienced that before. I have only been here a day but I am really looking forward to it."

The Welsh, Scottish, and Northern Irish football associations had been reluctant to embrace the unified Great Britain football team, citing fears over their ability to play as a separate entities in the future.

And, though five Welsh players were eventually included in the 18-man squad, none from Scotland or Northern Ireland were selected.

However, when asked about the politics surrounding the issue, Giggs chose to focus on football, saying: "All I have seen [is what is] in the press, really."

“As a player and a Welshman, I just wanted to be involved. Just like the Welsh lads involved, they're Welsh but we just wanted an opportunity to play for Great Britain in an Olympics on home turf so I think it was a chance we couldn't turn down.

"It was one we're excited about and if other people want to disagree with then that's their prerogative, but as a player I am excited and can't wait."

Giggs also addressed the absence of the his former United teammate David Beckham, who had been widely expected to be named in Stuart Pearce’s side after featuring heavily in the campaign to promote the Games.

"It is disappointing for David, obviously not being involved," he added. "As a friend I am disappointed for him but as a player you just get on with it and just try to enjoy the experience and that is what I am trying to do."

Koscielny in talks with Arsenal over new deal

    185962hp2.jpg

Laurent Koscielny is reportedly in talks with Arsenal over committing his long-term future to the club.

The France international still has two years left on his current contract with the Gunners but manager Arsene Wenger is said to be keen to tie the defender down to a new deal amid interest from a number of top sides around Europe, including Inter.

Arsenal has offered Koscielny an extension that would bind him to the Emirates until June 2017, according to L'Equipe.

The 26-year-old center back, who has been capped four times by Les Bleus, joined the north London outfit from Lorient in 2010.

Koscielny made just one appearance at Euro 2012 but drew plenty of praise from the French press for his performance in the 2-0 quarterfinal defeat to eventual champion Spain.

    Neymar lauds 'sensational' Iniesta

    194220hp2.jpg

Neymar has revealed that he thoroughly enjoyed watching Spain's Euro 2012 triumph, admitting that he was particularly enamored with the performances of the "sensational" Andres Iniesta.

The Santos forward was also impressed by Portugal attacker Cristiano Ronaldo and Germany playmaker Mesut Ozil, both of Real Madrid, but he felt that La Roja's No.8 deserved to win the player of the tournament award.

"I really like Iniesta," Neymar confessed during an interview with FIFA.com. "I think he's a sensational player.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is really good as well, and I enjoy watching Ozil of Germany a lot, too. He's a great player and I've always been a big fan of his."

Spain's success in Poland and Ukraine saw it become the first side to win three consecutive major international tournaments, and Neymar joked that Vicente del Bosque's men might actually end up getting bored by their own brilliance.

"The Spanish are going to finish with the game at this rate," he exclaimed. "They really are the best side.

"The technical standard [of Euro 2012] was very high, just as high as the World Cup. And all that was missing were teams like Brazil and Argentina."

The Selecao will, at least, be involved in this summer's Olympic Games in London, and Neywar is in no doubt that they can win the tournament for the first time in the nation's proud football history.

"We've got everything we need to be champions," the 20-year-old declared. "I think Brazil are always one of the favorites, no matter what the competition. It's always been that way.

"We've got a very good side too, and players with a lot of potential."

Brazil has been drawn in Group C alongside Egypt, Belarus and New Zealand.

Arsenal and Tottenham target Remy happy at Marseille

    173875hp2.jpg

Marseille striker Loic Remy has insisted that he is happy at the Ligue 1 side, amid continual speculation linking him with a move to either Tottenham or Arsenal.

The striker told Canal+: “For now, I am very proud to wear this shirt."

The France international, who missed Euro 2012 through injury, has been in explosive form for his club in recent seasons, netting 20 goals last campaign.

The north London rivals have been credited with an interest in the striker in recent months after several eye-catching performances, with former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp scouting him on numerous occasions.

However, although not completely ruling out a transfer, Remy is looking forward to the new season with the Stade Velodrome outfit.

“It is not news that I could leave. But we’ll see. I am preparing very well for a new season with my club,” Remy said.

The 25-year-old has always plied his trade in his home country, making the breakthrough with Lyon, before moving onto Lens, Nice and finally Marseille, with a healthy scoring record at each side he has represented.

    Ganso the fallen star

    Ganso the fallen star

    gansowoejuly2012_576x324.jpg

It's August 2010 and the Meninos da Vila (Kids of the Vila) are in full swing. Santos are crowned Copa do Brasil champions, their first national title in six years, and the back pages of the country's newspapers are dominated by the team's young stars.
The Meninos of Robinho, Ganso, Neymar and Andre have amassed 27 goals between them in just ten games. An 18-year-old Neymar is the tournament's top-scorer and Ganso, just two years his senior, its best player. This was a tantalising glimpse of Brazil's future - Neymar and Ganso in tandem, leading club and country to glory.A year later, the glorious vision was partially realised. Andre had departed for pastures new, whilst Robinho's peculiar loan arrangement at Santos from Manchester City had expired.

Santos were irresistible, sweeping to Copa Libertadores glory in fine style, suffering just one defeat in 14 games. The Peixe had been floundering in continental competition since the time of Pele 50 years previous, but now they could once more boast a side their rich history deserved. Neymar and Ganso once more shared the plaudits. The former voted the competition's best player; the latter Man of the Match in the final. It was now surely just a matter of time before the double act led the national side to equivalent success, or so it was believed.

The warning signs were there, but the ever-increasing hype was all-consuming. Whilst Neymar was taking it in his stride, Ganso was silently breaking. The youngster's Copa Libertadores final display was a remarkable achievement, not for the skill demonstrated, but for the circumstances leading up to the game. Following the side's Copa do Brasil triumph, Ganso underwent knee surgery that would keep him out of action for six months. After a return lasting just nine games, the procedure needed repeating. The Copa Libertadores final second-leg was to be his comeback game and he shone. Beneath the surface, though, the cracks were appearing. A year on, they are gaping chasms.

The past 12 months have not been kind to the elegant playmaker. Brazil manager Mano Menezes insisted his side would be built around Ganso, but the Copa America of last summer proved to be a disaster. Unfit following his injury lay-off, the languid enganche, otherwise known as trequartista, struggled to deal with the rugged, battle-hardened defensive midfielders the continent had to offer.

In a role that very few players master, his inexperience was glaring and his confidence in tatters. By September, injury struck again and Ganso arrived at the Club World Cup in Japan short of fitness once more. Santos may have cruised past Kashiwa Reysol, but Barcelona would not be so kind. The final was a savage lesson to the Brazilian side, Neymar included, but it was Ganso who found his faults laid bare for all to see by the relentless pressure of the Blaugrana defence. All the while, the relationship between midfielder and club was creaking, having failed to see eye-to-eye over a new contract.

Whilst Neymar is now the golden boy of Brazilian football, Ganso is the forgotten man. ''Ganso is upset with the club. They put together a project for Neymar but forgot about Ganso," his agent, Delcir Sonda, complained this week. ''Ganso will not play for Santos again. That is guaranteed."

The beautiful vision of the future had soured. Two had become one in the eyes of the Brazilian public, and Ganso had been the one to lose out. Whilst Neymar's form and charisma make him a sponsor's dream, his often dour colleague does not hold the same appeal. The former's earning power allowed Santos to offer a mammoth contract worth more than £600,000-a-month, Ganso was offered just a quarter of that. With Ganso still the second lowest paid player in the Santos first-team, the relationship is now seemingly over.

A year ago there would have been considerable European interest at this development. Indeed, AC Milan are believed to have backed out of a deal last summer only at the last minute, following yet another unfortunate injury set-back. The current transfer window presents quite some contrast. Manchester United and Chelsea are bandied around as suitors in the English media, but this is ultimately speculation with little substance, with many unaware of the midfielder's recent travails.

The only concerted interest in recent months has come from Porto, who had a "derisory" bid of €8 million rejected by Santos in January - a far cry from the €20-30 million touted just last summer. That was January. Since then, Ganso has encountered little except poor form and injury. Indeed DIS, who own 55% of the player's economic rights, will this week look to buy the remaining share off Santos. If the Paulista side get anything in excess of €5 million for their share, they will be mildly content.

Talk in Brazil this week suggests Ganso will head south to Internacional, if his owners succeed in their attempted buy-out. A loan deal would see Ganso link up with the talented Andres D'Alessandro in midfield, behind a newly reinforced strikeforce of Leandro Damiao and Diego Forlan. The arrival, though, would surely see the departure of rising star Oscar, who appears headed for Chelsea.

Whilst Ganso's career has stalled, Oscar's has sky-rocketed. A wonderful hat-trick against Portugal in the 2011 Under-20 World Cup final kickstarted his rapid ascent to stardom, which culminated in four sublime appearances for the national team last month. As fate would have it, the former Sao Paulo youngster would never have been given the opportunity had it not been for Ganso's latest injury setback. The Olympic Games now loom on the horizon; they were supposed to be Neymar and Ganso's test-run for the 2014 World Cup. Now, even the latter's place in the team is in significant doubt.

Injuries have undoubtedly done untold damage to the youngster's progression, but the root of his poor form lies deeper than simply bad luck. On the biggest stages and against international standard defences, Ganso has consistently been found wanting over the past two years. As Juan Roman Riquelme and the deeper-lying Andrea Pirlo, or Paul Scholes, manage to compete at the top level at little more than walking pace, Ganso has been unable to replicate this success.

The enganche, or traditional South American number 10 playmaker role, is a dying art, with the aging Riquelme the only present master. Whilst the Argentine still dominates games, his Brazilian junior has failed to master this skill. Inexperience and a reticence to seek the ball see his undeniable talents too easily nullified. Compared with the vibrant, dynamic game offered by Oscar, Ganso is currently coming up short.

If ever a player needed a move to Europe to progress, it is Ganso. Whilst Oscar and Neymar already frequently find themselves simply too good for their domestic opponents, they emit an aura that suggests the transition to the Old Continent would be a mere formality. For Ganso, it would surely require a whole new learning process. The vast open spaces afforded in Brazil would be no more, and the very high pressure marking systems which have caused him so much bother to date would become a weekly occurrence. It would be sink or swim time for one of Brazil's most naturally gifted talents.

With his game simply not ready for the pressure of a move to a European giant, perhaps previously linked Porto or PSG would be suitable locations from where the playmaker could hone his skills. The onus would then be on him, and his body, to prove that he is capable of performing at the highest levels.

Hope still exists that one day, in the near future, Ganso's game will mature to once more be a match for his precocious colleague. Santos, though, look prepared to cut their losses on a player whose promising career appears to be stuck in an ever-deepening rut.

Chelsea have tabled a bid for Internacional forward Oscar, according to the player's agent.

The Brazilian has long been tipped for a move to Europe, with Tottenham thought to be leading the race for his signature. But it appears that Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas could be beaten to the punch by his former paymasters."Chelsea did offer €25 million, but there is still no agreement between the clubs, that may happen in the next few days," Carlos Meinberg Neto told Terra."Giuliano Bertolucci (Oscar's other agent) will travel to England to finalise the remaining details."

Spurs are not out of the hunt, as Neto added: "Tottenham also made an offer, but he should accept Chelsea's offer as there is more exposure there."Oscar is all set to showcase his talents in London this summer after being named in Brazil's Olympic squad.

Manchester United close in on Lucas Moura deal

:cool:Manchester United close in on Lucas Moura deal

    lucas,saopaulo_576x324.jpg

Sao Paulo midfielder Lucas Moura appears to be moving closer to a £30 million switch to Manchester United after an official from the Brazilian club mocked a 'ridiculous' offer from Inter Milan.

Lucas, 19, said on Monday that he was open to a move to Europe and United have sent a delegation to Brazil to begin talks.

His father, who is also his agent, has had a meeting with Inter Milan about a possible transfer, although Sao Paulo director of football Joao Paulo de Jesus Lopes has poked fun at the Italian club's interest.

"How can you pay €25 million (£20 million) for a player of Lucas's quality?" Jesus Lopes is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail. "There is no (formal) offer and, even if it were to appear, this amount is ridiculous."Italian football is broke - the club (Inter) are broke. It seems they are creating this to satisfy the fans."

Attacking midfielder Lucas is attracting an increasing amount of interest from European clubs. Chelsea have already had a bid - reported to be £32 million - turned down, but United are hopeful that they can seal a transfer before Lucas comes to London to play for Brazil at the Olympics.

"You never know what can happen," Lucas said about a possible move. "I don't have a crazy desire to leave but, when the time comes, I will speak with my family and decide what is best for my future.

"Of course I think about it, but I can't let it go to my head. I'm very calm and down to earth about it. My job is to play football so that these clubs continue to be interested."Lucas said he "cannot guarantee" that he will stay at Sao Paulo until the end of his contract, adding: "I know my father ... had a meeting [with Inter Milan], but I don't know what was said. Now I will go to the Olympics with my mind only on winning a gold medal."

The Inter president Massimo Moratti said his club hoped to complete the signing, but admitted: "I don't know if it's a hope or more a target to keep tabs on, considering the times we're in."

Liverpool close to signing Roma forward Fabio Borini

    168516hp2.jpg

Roma forward Fabio Borini is expected to become Brendan Rodgers' first signing as Liverpool manager.
The 21-year-old Italy international worked with Rodgers at the Chelsea academy and on loan at Swansea.
Talks between the parties are ongoing and although the deal has yet to be agreed, the potential fee is likely to be in the region of £8m.
On Monday Rodgers had stated that he was close to making an "exciting" signing.
"We hope to complete a deal this week which will be a real exciting one for the club," he said.
“We don't have a wheelbarrow load of money, there is not the money flying about people think there is”

    Brendan Rodgers Liverpool manager

"He will be terrific, I'm sure. And the supporters will absolutely love him.
"Going forward hopefully we can bring maybe two or three more and then with the group of players that I already have it'll bode really well for us and provide us hopefully with that strength in the group to challenge in every competition."
Rodgers has admired Borini since the Italian scored scored six goals in just nine Championship appearances while with Swansea towards the end of the 2010-11 season.
The former Parma forward has one international cap and was part of the Italy squad that finished runners-up at Euro 2012.

    Chelsea agree fee for Oscar

    oscarbrazil20120609_576x324.jpg

Chelsea have agreed a fee with Internacional for Brazil midfielder Oscar.

Oscar, 20, has been linked with a move to Europe this summer, and both Chelsea and Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur have been mooted as interested parties.

The Blues are now closing in on the playmaker's signature after a fee of €25 million was accepted by the player's club Internacional.

An ESPN source said: "Nothing is signed but a deal in principle is agreed for €25 million."
Champions League winners Chelsea have already brought in Eden Hazard from Lille and Werder Bremen's Marko Marin ahead of Roberto Di Matteo's first full season in charge as permanent boss.

Oscar, who will represent his nation at the 2012 Olympics, is highly-rated in his native Brazil, with an arguable career highlight being a hat-trick against Portugal at the 2011 Under-20 World Cup final in Colombia.

Spurs, meanwhile, look set to focus their efforts on landing Porto's Joao Moutinho, who has been lined up as a replacement for Luka Modric, should Real Madrid lodge an acceptable bid for the Croatian.

Fabio Liverani has urged Juventus to divert their attentions towards Edinson Cavani after hailing the Napoli striker as the "perfect" fit for the Bianconeri.

The Uruguay international, who is part of his country's Olympic squad, has been heavily linked with a move to Turin, as the Serie A champions are keen to boost their attacking options ahead of the new season.

Juventus are also understood to be seeking clarification about Cavani's future,Lazio and Fiorentina midfielder claims the Old Lady should sign the 25-year-old at all costs.

"If I were to think of a signing for Juventus, I would do anything to sign Cavani," Liverani told Sky Sport Italia.

"He is the perfect player for them."

Liverani, who played for Fiorentina between 2006 and 2008, then admitted that he is not surprised to read reports that Stevan Jovetic is likely to leave the Viola this summer.

"I do not know if he will stay at Fiorentina or not," the Genoa youth coach added.
