    Congratulations Spain!!!

:love:Nigeria 0-3 Spain: Jordi Alba and Fernando Torres ensure world champions top Group B
    soc_g_torres_gb1_576.jpg

Spain wrapped up its group stage campaign of the Confederations Cup with ease after recording a comfortable 3-0 victory over Nigeria at the Estadio Castelao Fortaleza

A brilliant solo double from Jordi Alba and a header from substitute Fernando Torres sealed the victory over a disappointing Super Eagles, who were undone by their own inability to finish the numerous chances that came their way.

Predictably, Vicente Del Bosque made a number of changes from the side that dismantled Tahiti 10-0 on Thursday, with Victor Valdes starting in goal. Nigeria, meanwhile, made two changes from the lineup that suffered defeat against Uruguay.

And Spain settled into its rhythm early on, with Andres Iniesta nutmegging a defender en route to testing Vincent Enyeama with a good effort inside a minute. However, the early barrage continued, with Alba opening the scoring two minutes later in scintillating fashion.

Picking up the ball after a neat pass from Iniesta, the Barcelona fullback embarked on a fine run, slaloming past three Nigerian defenders before coolly slotting the ball past Enyeama to put La Roja up a goal.

The African champions struggled in the opening exchanges, with Cesc Fabregas denied by Enyaema, but at the other end, they too saw a chance go begging, with Sergio Ramos hurriedly thwarting John Obi Mikel, after the ball had fallen to him following good work by Joseph Akpala.

Stephen Keshi's side rallied, and was posing numerous problems for the world and European champions. Set through by Ideye Brown, Sunday Mba produced a stinging effort from distance which required Valdes to divert it away for a corner.

But Spain continued to dominate in search for a second. First, Ramos' superb long ball picked out Roberto Soldado, whose brief hesitation allowed Enyeama to recover, before the Valencia striker's pin-point delivery off the wing for Fabregas, saw the latter strike against the post.

Nigeria's profligate finishing continued early into the second half. Ahmed Musa's threatening delivery off the right flank picked out Brown in the middle, but somehow, the striker couldn't connect cleanly with the ball, though at the other end, Xavi flashed a free kick narrowly over the bar as both sides' search for another goal continued.

Just after the hour, Spain doubled its advantage. Torres, who had been only on the field for two minutes, capitalized on some poor defending to power a header from Pedro's fine cross.

Nigeria began to tire towards the end of the second period, amidst the typical passing intensity imposed by their opponents, but it once again failed to beat Valdes in the Spain goal. Another teasing delivery from Musa saw substitute Muhammad Gambo to somehow fire horribly wide of the post.

Alba wrapped up a fine performance with two minutes to go, latching onto David Silva's long pass to round Enyeama and into an empty net to seal an emphatic second and Spain's third.

Spain tops Group B with nine points, and will face Itay in a rematch of last year's Euro 2012 final in the last four on Thursday in Fortaleza.

Uruguay 8-0 Tahiti: Abel Hernandez hits four as South Americans reach semifinals

    290823hp2.jpg

Uruguay ambled into the semifinals of the Confederations Cup with a straightforward 8-0 win over Tahiti at Arena Pernambuco.

Abel Hernandez opened the scoring with the fastest goal in the competition's history after 79 seconds and a Diego Perez goal came between his other two strikes which ensured the South Americans took a four-goal lead into halftime.

Andres Scotti missed a penalty early in the second half and was then sent off for a second yellow card one minute later. Teheivarii Ludivion was also shown red for the Oceania champion before Nicolas Lodeiro, Hernandez with his fourth, and a Luis Suarez double wrapped up the win in comfortable fashion.

Having conceded 10 against Spain, Tahiti could not even keep La Celeste out for two minutes. Lodeiro's corner was flicked on by the unmarked Scotti and Hernandez was also free to head home at the back post.

But Uruguay did not maintain that ruthless start to the game and lacked urgency as the Islanders held their own for a short while.

Having denied Walter Gargano and Gaston Ramirez, there was little Gilbert Meriel could do to stop Hernandez from adding his second with 23 minutes on the clock. The Palermo striker exploited the static Tahiti defense, running in behind onto a ball over the top and looping it over Jonathan Tehau before volleying into the back of the net.

Four minutes later the team had its third. Perez was the next player to spring the offside trap, getting his head on Gargano's cross and tapping home from close range after his initial header hit the post.

Uruguay stepped off the gas again and Tahiti took the opportunity to get forward, however Marama Vahirua and Steevy Chong Hue were unable to make the most of the chances that came their way.

Any momentum gained was taken away in first half stoppage time, though, as Gargano released Hernandez with a cutting pass and the striker poked the ball into the bottom corner to complete his hat trick.

After the interval it looked as though Oscar Tabarez's men would add their fifth goal when the referee pointed to the spot in the 50th minute following Nicolas Vallar's foul on Matias Aguirregaray, but things did not go to plan.

Veteran Scotti was handed the responsibility of the spot kick but his weak effort was saved by Meriel and one minute later the center back was shown a second yellow card following a foul on Chong Hue, reducing La Celeste to 10 men.

The referee evened the sides up in the 59th minute when he dismissed Ludivion for his second bookable offense and the South American's soon added their fifth. Gargano was again the supplier, drilling a low cross into the area which Lodeiro tapped in from inside the six-yard box.

Hernandez added his fourth with 23 minutes remaining as he showed unerring composure to slot home from the spot after Chong Hue had felled Aguirregaray inside the box.

Meriel denied Hernandez the record of becoming the first player to score five goals in a single Confederations Cup game with a great save, but Suarez was not to be kept out eight minutes from time as he turned Henri Caroine inside out and rolled the ball into the bottom corner.

Suarez then added his second with a tidy finish from the top of the box in the final minute of normal time, becoming Uruguay's all-time highest-scoring player in the process with 35 goals.

Despite the adoration and cheers of the crowd Tahiti was unable to find its second goal of the tournament. Uruguay's win sees the team finish second in Group B, setting up a semifinal encounter with host Brazil.

Police injured in Confederations Cup protests around the Mineirao

    290617_heroa.jpg

Security officers took casualties after being assaulted en masse by mobs numbering in the thousands.Several police officers have suffered injuries as citizen protests during Saturday's Confederations Cup match between Brazil and Italy escalated to violence.

Locals have staged demonstrations against the Brazilian government's funding of the eight-team World Cup dress rehearsal, in addition to the tournament in 2014 and the subsequent Olympics in 2016. The security threat to the host nation's final group game against the Azzurri had been aggravated to a point that officials were forced to deploy military enforcement in and around Mineirao.

Proceedings kicked off in an atmosphere of relative peace nevertheless, as the home supporters initially celebrated their team's goals in the 4-2 demolition of Cesare Prandelli's men to top Group A; however, reports on local radio of the onrushing of a demonstration numbering 100,000 strong headed for the stadium from Belo Horizonte - the surrounding locale - incited a frenzy.

Around 3,000 protesters directly engaged the police outside the complex. Authorities surrounding the stadium were bombarded by a myriad of objects ranging from rocks to crude bombs.

Five policemen are estimated to have suffered injuries resulting from the assaults, adding to the dozens of civilian casualties and pair of deaths that have been inflicted so far. Brazil president Dilma Rousseff had appealed for the protesters to disengage in a television broadcast on Friday, citing funding for the World Cup was not drawn from tax income.

FIFA has decided against postponing the remaining fixtures, despite reports claiming a participating nation has requested for such.

Cavani decision to be made soon, says Napoli president De Laurentiis

    290720_heroa.jpg

The Partenopei owner believes the future of their star striker will be decided when the Uruguayan comes back from the Confederations Cup for preseason on July 20th.Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis says Edinson Cavani will decide where he will be playing next season at the end of July, when the Uruguayan returns for preseason.

Cavani has been heavily linked to Chelsea, Real Madrid, and previously Manchester City, before the club's proposed player-plus-cash deal involving Edin Dzeko stalled.

The Uruguay international has scored more than 100 goals for Napoli in his three seasons at the club, and De Laurentiis is confident Cavani will not leave after the clause in his contract runs out.

"I don't think Cavani will leave on August 10th, when his buyout clause expires," De Laurentiis told Radio Rai. "I'm confident in him, because I consider him a real man. He won't make me a joke of me.

"Should Cavani want to leave, he will decide it after a long period of reflection. But by July 20th we will probably know everything about his future."Cavani joined Napoli from Palermo in 2010 for 12 million euros, andhe has played 52 games for his country, scoring 14 goals.

Cassano talks at an advanced stage, says Parma's Leonardi

    263748_heroa.jpg

The Gialloblu's managing director says he is confident the club will soon complete a deal to bring in the Inter striker, with Ishak Belfodil heading the other way.Parma managing director Pietro Leonardi has revealed the club's negotiations with Inter Milan over Antonio Cassano are close to completion.

Genoa president Enrico Preziosi acknowledged on Saturday that his club have lost the battle to sign the forward, leaving the way clear for the Gialloblu to finalize the deal.

According to FcInternews.it, Leonardi was relaxed about the prospect of Cassano joining the club, hinting there were only a few remaining issues to resolve and that an agreement had been reached with the Nerazzurri.

"There's not much to talk about, the operation has started and we are quite confident," Leonardi was quoted as saying. "But as is normal in these situations you have to put together all the components. Certainly there is a willingness on the part of everyone to arrive at the conclusion.

"I am not aware that Genoa might disturb the deal: we with Inter, from a corporate standpoint, have reached an agreement on everything and I do not think you want to sell the same player twice.

"The deal is quite advanced. We're working, we need calm. But there is a lot of confidence even though we have not yet reached an agreement, depends on many factors."

Parma celebrates its centenary this year, and Leonardi was keen to position the deal for Cassano, who has scored nine times in 39 games for Inter, as a present to the supporters.

"Why are we after Cassano who is 30-years-old and not a young person?" Leonardi said. "I think Cassano is an absolute talent who I have always wanted to work with. I do not want to hear about alternatives.

"Of course I would be happy if everything goes ahead and are very confident; however, there are sensitive issues that I can not reveal."

Luis Alberto is another like Coutinho, enthuses Liverpool boss Rodgers

    290473_heroa.jpg

The Reds manager sees similarities in the two youngsters, with the new signing from Sevilla able to have an impact immediately as well as in the seasons to come.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes that new signing Luis Alberto is in the same mold as successful January recruit Philippe Coutinho.

The forward joined the Reds from Sevilla on Saturday, and the Anfield boss feels that he can make an impact immediately as well as in the long term.

"He's another Coutinho-type," Rodgers enthused to talkSPORT. "We brought in young Philippe Coutinho in January when he was 20, but he had good experience, and, more importantly, fit the profile of what we're trying to do here and what we're trying to build.

"Young Luis is exactly the same - a talented, very highly rated young player when he was at Sevilla but obviously spent last season at Barcelona B.

"He's a big talent and one for now that can play. He's got competitive games behind him and is one we see progressing over the next few years. Importantly, he knows the type of game and model we're trying to work in."

Luis Alberto joins Kolo Toure and Iago Aspas as new faces at Anfield this summer, and Rodgers was happy to praise his other signings as well.

"Kolo Toure is a player I've admired since he came into the Premier League," Rodgers said. "He was a wonderful servant for Arsenal and a part of that 'Invincibles' group and did exceptionally well. And, in the transformation of Manchester City, they brought him in as one of their key players.

"We're losing an absolute colossal player in Jamie Carragher, who was absolutely brilliant for me. It's very, very hard to replace that type.

"Kolo Toure will give us that experience and winning mentality.

"He's still very fit, very strong and will come in, offer that support and fight for his place in the team.

"Iago Aspas was one of the stars for Celta Vigo. He's a goalscorer, he's quick, dynamic, aggressive in his game and has a winning mentality.

"I feel these are the types of players that can come into Liverpool and keep our momentum moving forward. Players that are hungry to succeed, because that's important for us."

Jese Rodriguez: Mourinho never gave me a chance

    290673_heroa.jpg

The Real Madrid youngster believes that he was unfairly overlooked by Jose Mourinho and hopes he can thrive by learning from the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Jese Rodriguez has criticized Jose Mourinho for not giving him enough opportunities to shine at Real Madrid, claiming that he deserves a more prominent role.

The 20-year-old Spanish winger, who scored twice against the USA in Friday's FIFA U-20 World Cup clash, is considered one of Los Blancos' brightest prospects. Despite making 38 appearances and scoring 22 times for the reserves last season, though, Rodriguez did not turn out once for the senior team, and he believes that the Chelsea manager overlooked the club's youngsters during his three-year reign at the Bernabeu.

"Maybe last year the club thought that they don't need to have more youth players and Mourinho thought he needed to sign players from outside the club," Rodriguez told AS. "I think maybe I deserved more opportunities. Anyway this was what Mourinho thought, and he isn't here now, so let's what will happen in the future and what the new coach thinks."

Rodriguez went on to say that he thoroughly enjoys the atmosphere at Estadio Santiago Beranbeu and that he hopes to learn from the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo.

"[Alberto] Toril, as with [Aitor] Karanka, has been instrumental in my career thanks to his work this season and has taught me a lot training with me every day," Rodriguez said. "I have a very good relationship with all the first team players - Sergio Ramos, Iker Casillas, Alvaro Morata, Xabi Alonso. I've spent the most time with Ramos.

"I look up to Cristiano Ronaldo in the dressing room. It's impossible not to. He's one of best players in the world and I have a lot to learn from him."

Laurent Blanc has confirmed he will be in Paris on Monday to discuss taking over as coach of Paris Saint-Germain.

The former France manager spoke to members of the press at a charity match on Sunday, revealing his intention to strike a deal with the Les Parisiens.

"I'll be in Paris on Monday to discuss a deal," Blanc said. "There is a good chance that I will sign."

"I cannot say much more for now, we'll know more later in the week.

Del Bosque: Spain had to battle two opponents

The Roja boss believes his side found it tough to contend with the hot and humid conditions in Fortaleza against Nigeria on Sunday Vicente del Bosque has admitted that Spain's 3-0 Confederations Cup victory over Nigeria was made all-the-more difficult by the conditions in Fortaleza on Sunday.

La Roja looked a little labored in the final third until Fernando Torres netted shortly after coming on as a second-half substitute to settle Spanish nerves, and Del Bosque believes both Spain's opponents and the heat proved formidable over the 90 minutes.

"It was a tough match," Del Bosque told reporters.

"We had a great opponent and they managed to create a balance in possession, looking for victory. We had control, patience and I think this was an unfair result as both teams should have scored more.

"To have a balance between patience and all-out speed is very beneficial. We had two big opponents today, the heat and Nigeria. Playing 90 minutes in this heat and at this rhythm is impossible."

Roberto Soldado was restored to the starting line-up at the expense of Torres and David Villa, who both netted hat tricks against Tahiti, but Del Bosque was coy on who would start the semifinal against Italy on Thursday.

"Roberto has done his job and Fernando has done his," he continued.

"A team needs fresh legs. Soldado had a couple of good plays where he was in front of the goalkeeper. We're happy with both [players]."

Jordi Alba was another key player in la Roja's victory, contributing two goals following trademark bursts down the left-hand side, and his coach could not help but applaud his efforts.

"Our system makes it so that players like Jordi Alba can appear in great offensive situations," he explained.

"We didn't lose our balance and had Jordi, who is a splendid player, creating chances.

"I'm more about players than a system of play. Every team needs to have offensive organization and defensive organization. We never lost defensive capabilities but we've played a bit more offensively in the second half. In the second half, we defended better."
