Isco targets Decima in debut Madrid season

    293139_heroa.jpg

The former Malaga star also heaped praise on club icon Zinedine Zidane after being unveiled at the Santiago Bernabeu New Real Madrid signing Isco has targeted winning the Decima in his first season with Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Jose Mourinho’s three-year tenure at the Bernabeu brought about an improvement in their recent continental fortunes with three Champions League semi-finals but the club are still waiting for their elusive 10th European crown.

Having joined from Malaga on a five-year contract, Isco is now eager to achieve what would be an historic success as soon as possible with Madrid.

“Everyone involved with Real Madrid is anxious for the Decima and we hope we can get it this year,” he told the club’s TV station.

“That is something which would make the fans really happy. Real Madrid is one of the most demanding teams. I hope to play a lot and above all earn my place and win titles, which is what matters most to Real Madrid.

“The majority of this squad has caught my eye when I’ve played against them. Cristiano is a beast, Xabi Alonso, Ozil, Sergio Ramos… there is a lot of talent on this team and we hope to use it to win big titles.”

The attacking midfielder said he used to love watching Zinedine Zidane play in the white shirt and was honoured the Frenchman had played a part in signing him.

“Zidane was a delight to watch play - he was pure class,” said Isco.

“I don’t have to describe him; everyone knows how he is. I’m proud that he is placing his trust in me. That is a huge thing.”

Summing up his feelings having gone through his unveiling at the club alongside president Florentino Perez, Isco admitted his rapid rise to the top has even taken him by surprise.

He continued: “It is not every day that you sign with the best squad in the world. This has been the most important day of my career. I’m very happy to be here.

“It’s a little dizzying because three years ago I was in third division and now I’m here at Real Madrid!

“I have to improve everything about my game. I’m 21 years old, I’m just starting out in the world of football and I’ve made it to the best club in the world to see what I’m capable of.”

    Isco handed Beckham's shirt

    291576_heroa.jpg

The Spain international was keen to lavish praise on his new club after previously criticising los Blancos in an interview four years ago Isco has claimed Real Madrid represents the pinnacle of any professional player's career after completing his move to the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder, who will wear the No.23 jersey, the same number David Beckham wore when he joined Madrid 10 years ago, says he chose the shirt because it was his brother's birthday.

Isco had infamously stated four years ago that he had little love for Madrid, whom he labelled as "arrogant", but at Wednesday's unveiling, he had nothing but praise for los Blancos.

"First of all, I want to thank the efforts of the president [Florentino Perez], my family, and love of all the fans," the former Malaga man told reporters.

"For a player there is nothing greater than being at Real Madrid; it is the ultimate. I hope to enjoy it a lot here, and delight everyone, winning many titles for Real Madrid.

"It is curious to be presented with the same number and on the same day that Beckham was. I had several shirts available, but I chose the '23 'because it is the day of my brother's birthday."

Perez, for his part, was keen to give Isco a warm welcome to the Bernabeu, admitting Madrid were delighted they had beaten off stiff competition from Manchester City for one of the most highly rated young players in Europe.

"Isco had offers from other clubs, but he has chosen to play for Real Madrid," the Blancos supremo said.

"Isco is joining a club that doesn't know the word impossible. This is your stadium and your home. Welcome to Real Madrid."

Isco came through the youth team ranks at Valencia before becoming a star during his two-year stay at Malaga.

Rich club Napoli don't need to sell Cavani, says De Laurentiis

    292355_heroa.jpg

The club president insists that the Uruguayan is not definitely leaving this summer and rejects reports that Paris Saint-Germain have triggered the striker's contract clause Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has insisted that the "rich club" do not need to sell Edinson Cavani this summer.

The striker has been heavily linked to the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City since the 2012-13 season finished though none of the European giants have triggered his €63 million contract clause.

There were reports from AS that Paris Saint-Germain had offered the massive sum of money for the Uruguayan on Wednesday but De Laurentiis has denied the claims and suggested that the 26-year-old could see out the remaining four years of his current deal at San Paolo.

"We have not received an offer from PSG for Cavani," he told Sky Sport 24. "We are a rich club that respects financial fair play, we do not need to sell our players.

"If someone wants 'El Matador' then they will have to pay the €63m clause. If we do not get offers, we would be happy to have him with us at least until his contract expires in 2017."

Cavani scored twice for Uruguay in their third-place play-off against Italy at the Confederations Cup to take his tally for the tournament to three goals, though his strikes were unable to save the side from defeat in a penalty shoot-out.

Klopp plays down Dortmund transfer hopes

    283206_heroa.jpg

The club are believed to be close to signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Saint-Etienne but the coach says he is happy with his current squad Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp has played down expectations of a summer transfer frenzy and insisted that he is happy with his current squad.

Mario Gotze left the 2012-13 Champions League finalists for their conquerors in Europe and main Bundesliga rivals, Bayern Munich, in a €37 million deal, though incoming transfer activity has been kept to a minimum.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos is the only player to have joined the club as of the start of July, though Saint-Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is believed to be close to joining the Schwarzgelben, however Klopp thinks that patience is required from supporters and wants time to build his squad's strength.

"We know how we want to play football in the new year, we know our goals," Klopp told reporters. "We can’t achieve everything on the first day, we will take the time that is necessary.

"We are very pleased with the team we have so far. There are no differences (to the preparation last year) but that doesn’t matter, because I rate all [my players] differently."Dortmund's first competitive fixture of the new season will be against Bayern in the DFB-Supercup on July 2013.

Lyon chairman expects Grenier to ignore Arsenal overtures

    283849_heroa.jpg

The 22-year-old playmaker has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, but Stade de Gerland chief Jean-Michel Aulas believes he will remain at the club Olympique Lyonnais chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has played down speculation linking Clement Grenier with a move away from the Stade de Gerland despite interest from Arsenal.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger confirmed his interest in the 22-year-old in May, but Aulas is confident the France international will stay with les Gones.

“Like I said already, I think Clement Grenier will be with us next year,” the Lyon president told reporters.

The club are set to hold a meeting with Grenier to discuss his future on Monday, and the young playmaker is less sure of his future at the Ligue 1 club than Aulas.

“Today, I honestly cannot answer that, my future is not fixed,” said Grenier when asked if he will remain at Lyon.

“I have an appointment with the president, the coach and my representatives in order to discuss all this. A meeting that can come very quickly, surely right after out return from training camp [in Tignes].”

Aulas also discussed the future of striker Bafetimbi Gomis, a target for a number of Premier League clubs, but revealed that the 27-year-old forward was not keen on any of the proposed moves.

“Bafe [Gomis] is studying a certain number of offers like we told him to,” added Aulas.

“We showed him three proposals, they do not seem to suit him. We will try to find others that suit him better.”

Bayern apologise to Adidas over Gotze howler

    293122_heroa.jpg

The German giants were forced to offer their apologies to the sports company after their star signing wore a Nike shirt at his official presentation Bayern Munich have apologised to club sponsor Adidas after Mario Gotze turned up wearing a t-shirt with a big Nike logo at his official unveiling on Tuesday.

The Germany international joined Bayern from Borussia Dortmund this summer for a transfer fee of €37 million, but Gotze did not make a good first impression on one of his new club's main sponsors.

"The images from the press conference with Mario Gotze were a negative surprise to us. This is obviously unacceptable contractually as this was an official event of Adidas partners Bayern," a spokesperson for the company told Bild.

Tuesday's events quickly prompted Bayern to contact Adidas and offer their apologies for the incident.

"We have apologised to Adidas on the phone. We have promised them that such a thing will never happen again," Bayern press officer Markus Horwick said.

Adidas is the long-standing kit supplier to Bayern and owns a stake of around nine per cent in the Champions League winners.

Isco: My other dog was called Figo

    293100_heroa.jpg

The Spain international has explained his decision to name his pets after Barcelona players and is confident of becoming a key player at his new club New Real Madrid signing Isco has revealed he had another dog named after Luis Figo, while he has insisted he will not change his current pet's name from Messi to Cristiano Ronaldo.

The name of the attacking midfielder's labrador was one of the hot topics during his Madrid presentation on Wednesday and he has stressed that people should not read too much into his decision to name his dog after the Barcelona star.

"My pet is named Messi and by the way I also had another pet named Figo. There isn't more to it," Isco told reporters.

"I won't change his name to Cristiano, because he won't listen to it."

The creative midfielder then went on to say it was impossible for him to turn down Madrid, while he added that he is confident he will secure a starting berth at his new club.

"I had offers from other teams across Europe, but it is impossible to reject Real Madrid," he continued.

"I am confident that I will earn a spot in the starting XI here. It will not be easy, but I will give my all to become a key player. If I thought that I would not be able to become a starter, I would not have joined Madrid."

Isco also had his say on Carlo Ancelotti, lavishing praise on Madrid's new head coach.

He added: "What can I say about Ancelotti? He has won things at all the clubs he has worked at. He has won the Champions League as a player and as a coach. That really says it all."

Liverpool boss Rodgers targets 'attacking' signing

    277601_heroa.jpg

The 40-year-old insists a creative player would benefit his side and also reveals that he is targeting a defensive acquisition this summer Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes the club need to sign an 'attacking, creative player' this summer.

The Merseyside outfit have activated the €22 million release clause of Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but face strong competition from Borussia Dortmund for the Armenia international's signature.

Rodgers, who guided Liverpool to a seventh-placed finish last season, has revealed that he is also targeting a new defensive signing.

"I still think another attacking, creative player, and depending on what goes out of the club - because naturally there might be one or two players who need to go out and play more - then we'll need to fill those areas that have been vacated," Rodgers told the club's official website.

"Certainly another attacking player will really benefit us, and probably another defender. We'll see how it develops over the course of the next few months."

Liverpool have already completed moves for Kolo Toure, Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas and Simon Mignolet and Rodgers believes his side's fast start to the transfer window should make the initial stages of next season easier.

"It's great - it's a big thing to the club because we looked at last summer and there were lots of things that were difficult for us," said Rodgers.

"That meant that the opening period of the season was difficult.

"From that we've got all our people involved, our recruitment team in - and they got to work as soon as they came in.

"We brought great signings in in January and that's really helped us. Obviously the plan was to get our signings in as soon as we possibly could - and we still hope to make a few more.

"I'm very happy with the four players I've brought in, and they'll add to the group."
