El Shaarawy can replicate last year's form, insists Allegri

    302032_heroa.jpg

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri is confident Stephan El Shaarawy will bounce back from his disappointing second half of the 2012-13 campaign to get back to his best again in the new season.

The Italy international impressed in the first half of last term with a string of fine performances, but was unable to keep up his high level after the winter break, scoring just twice in his last 20 league games.

Nevertheless, Allegri has little doubt that the young attacker will show his true self again in 2013-14.

"Stephan has all the qualities to replicate the form that he showed last year. He just needs to stay calm and work hard to repeat what he did last year," Allegri told Milan Channel.

"He's still a kid of only 20 years and a lot has happened to him in the past few months. He will have to find a certain balance and focus on playing his own game.

"He has been training very well. Sometimes he does good things during games and sometimes he does bad things. That happens to everybody and is not a problem at all."

El Shaarawy ended last season with 16 goals in 37 Serie A appearances, but his decline in form has not deterred potential suitors, with the Rossoneri turning down a substantial offer for his services this summer.

:sorry:Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines are not for sale, insist Everton

    article-0-1B2EED6D000005DC-815_634x396.jpg

Everton will reject any formal bid from Manchester United for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines, with Roberto Martínez intent on retaining his two key assets at the club for his inaugural season in charge.United's manager, David Moyes, is weighing up making a joint offer worth a minimum of £30m for Fellaini, who would strengthen his midfield, and Baines, who would provide serious competition to Patrice Evra at left-back.

But Everton are clear that neither is for sale, with the club mindful that having lost Moyes to United, the transfer of either or both players to the champions would be difficult to countenance.

However, a higher offer of between £35m to £40m for the Belgian and the England defender may test Everton's resolve, with the Merseyside's club current position potentially an initial bargaining move.

'I'm not some super-trainer' - Guardiola plays down Bayern expectations

    302878_heroa.jpg

Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola has attempted to dampen expectations ahead of his first season at the club.

The German side won the Champions League, Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal last season, losing just three games in all competitions under the guidance of Jupp Heynckes.Guardiola himself enjoyed remarkable success in his four-year stint at the helm of Barcelona, but he insists he should not be considered a "super-trainer" as he attempts to continue his impressive coaching career at the Allianz Arena.

"It’s not easy always having to win. People believe we’ll win 6-0 or 7-0, but that’s just not possible," he told reporters.

"The supporters want more and more and more, but I have only been with the team for six to seven weeks, I need more time. I’m just a normal coach, I’m not some super-trainer."Bayern suffered a 4-2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the DFL-Supercup in Guardiola's first competitive fixture in charge.

The Bavarian club will get their Bundesliga campaign under way against Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday.

Low recalls Bayern and Dortmund stars for Paraguay friendly

    253139_heroa.jpg

Germany coach Joachim Low has made several changes to his squad for Wednesday's friendly against Paraguay.A number of players from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, who missed the tour of the United States in May because of the Champions League final, return to the squad.Manuel Neuer, Mats Hummels, Philipp Lahm, Marcel Schmelzer, Sven Bender, Ilkay Gundogan, Thomas Muller and Marco Reus all return, as does Fiorentina's Mario Gomez, formerly of Bayern.

Germany will be without Bastian Schweinsteiger, Mario Goetze and Toni Kroos for the friendly in Kaiserslautern, but Low is still positive going into the fixture against Vitcor Genes' side."We go into this season with a lot of hope. The World Cup is right in front of us and this is the last stretch," Low said."The Paraguay game is not a warm-up exercise but a serious test against a South American team.

"I am happy that for the first time in five months we have many players with us again who are the foundation of this team."We have an outstanding position in our (World Cup qualifying) group and are on an approach flight to Brazil.

"In September we can take the decisive step. We want to win the group without losing a game."

    Roma sign Gervinho

    297722_heroa.jpg

Roma have completed the signing of Arsenal attacker Gervinho for an undisclosed fee believed to be around €8 million, the English club confirmed on Thursday.

Gervinho, 26, has agreed a contract with the Giallorossi - though how long it is for has not been announced yet - and will team up with former Lille coach Rudi Garcia, who has also joined the Serie A giants this summer.

The Ivorian forward, who failed to established himself as a first-team regular with Arsenal, becomes Roma's fifth major signing of the summer following Morgan De Sanctis, Maicon, Mehdi Benatia and Kevin Strootman to the Stadio Olimpico.

Arsenal said on the official website: "Gervinho has joined Italian Serie A side AS Roma for an undisclosed fee.

"Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Gervinho for his contribution to the Club and wish him well for his future career."

Roma have been looking to strengthen their squad following a disappointing campaign last year, having missed out on European football, finished sixth in Italy's top flight and runners-up to rivals Lazio in the Coppa Italia.

Gervinho made 18 Premier League appearances last season, scoring just five goals.

Inler: Higuain will replace Cavani goals

    302692_heroa.jpg

Gokhan Inler has backed Gonzalo Higuain to replace the goals of Edinson Cavani for Napoli.

The Uruguay international found the net 29 times in 34 Serie A matches last season before joining Paris Saint-Germain in a €64 million deal this summer.

In comparison, Higuain struck 16 Liga goals for Real Madrid as they surrendered their league title and were beaten in the final of the Copa del Rey, but the Switzerland midfielder feels the €40m man is a more than able replacement.

“Cavani’s departure is a massive loss for us,” he told Tafesanzeiger.

“But football is a business and I do not think that will change. However, we respect and accept his decision to go away.

“Higuain, though, is a top player and I’m very happy with his capture. This move shows that the company wants to focus on big goals, which is why I am convinced of I am at the right club to win.”

Higuain is one of a number of high profile summer arrivals in Naples, joining the likes of Pepe Reina, Raul Albiol, Jose Callejon, Dries Mertens, and Pablo Armero in making the move to Stadio San Paolo.

The Argentine brings a tally of 107 Liga goals with him to Italy as he prepares to front a new-look Napoli attack.

    Postiga joins Valencia

    257864_heroa.jpg

Valencia have completed the €3 million signing of striker Helder Postiga from Zaragoza.

The 30-year-old inked a two-year deal with the club following los Che's sale of Roberto Soldado to Tottenham last week.

Postiga netted 23 goals in 70 Liga appearances with Zaragoza, who were relegated last season, but the striker insists he does not want to be viewed as a replacement for the departed Soldado.

“I’m delighted to have arrived at a club like Valencia,” he told reporters.

“I am not here to replace anybody. I have come to be one more player in this team.

“Soldado was a very important player for Valencia, as were many others, but this is a new era and I am going to give my all to ensure things work out well.”

The Portugal international becomes the club’s fourth summer signing, following the likes of Michel, Javi Fuego and Oriol Romeu, who arrives on loan from Chelsea.
