Sri Lanka Cricket is now exploring the possibility of conducting a disciplinary inquiry against Sri Lankan national player Kithruwan Vithanage for breaching the disciplinary conduct for players during the first test match against Pakistan in Galle.


It is still a question as to how this Secretary, who had no official duties in connection with the Test series against Pakistan, was allowed to interact with players during the test match. She had been appointed to the SLC as a Secretary by Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage a few years ago.


The senior player has requested the top officials of the Sri Lanka Cricket to conduct an inquiry into the incident as this would set a bad precedence.


Speaking to Asian Mirror, a spokesman from the SLC who wished to remain anonymous said the SLC is to obtain CCTV footage from the hotel to ascertain the veracity of information. “Then”, he said, “cricket authorities can proceed with a disciplinary inquiry”.


The conduct of international players are closely monitored during cricket tournaments mainly due to match-fixing and spot-fixing issues. However, no final decision has so far been made with regard to a disciplinary inquiry against Vithanage.



Kithruwan Vithanage made his test debut for Sri Lanka national cricket team on 8 March 2013 Galle against Bangladesh and One day International debut 25 December 2013 at Abu Dhabi against Pakistan. He was called back to the Sri Lanka Test team by the Selections Committee for the test series against Pakistan.
