Peace blames Tottenham for Berahino fury

    saido-berahino_1gtipwd0la6su1hks4eglx2c68.jpg

West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace has hit out at Tottenham's ultimately futile pursuit of Saido Berahino which saw the striker remain at the Hawthorns on deadline day but furious at his own club.

After Spurs saw two previous offers for the England Under-21s international rejected earlier this summer, the Baggies confirmed that a third and fourth bid were turned down on Tuesday's deadline day, with reports claiming that the north Londoners were offering as little as £5 million in payment up front.

Berahino, seemingly incensed at not being allowed to join Tottenham, took to Twitter to express his frustration and appeared to threaten not to play for the club again.

And Peace blames Spurs for the damage to his player's morale, telling West Brom's official website: "We have a key player who has been very unsettled by antics which were designed to get him out of our club cheaply.

"Those tactics have continued despite my making our position clear in my first conversation with [Tottenham chairman] Daniel Levy on this subject in mid-August.

"I said selling Saido so late in the window was not on our agenda.

"Tottenham's offers failed substantially to reflect Saido's true value while the timing made no allowance for our own recruitment of a suitable replacement for a proven Premier League goalscorer.

"Saido has been unsettled to the point where our head coach has not felt able to select him for our last three games.

"We are now left with the task of repairing the damage created by this unfortunate episode."

Official: Man Utd sign Regan Poole from Newport County

    1863032_heroa.jpg

Manchester United have completed the signing of Regan Poole from Newport County.

The 17-year-old centre-back joins Old Trafford from the League Two club for an undisclosed fee.

At the age of sixteen and ninety-four days, Poole became the youngest-ever player to appear for Newport's first team after making his debut against Shrewsbury Town last September.

Poole has also been capped at Under-17 level by Wales.

"In the past few days a number of clubs have shown an interest in Regan, but as soon as Manchester United came in there was only really going to be one outcome,” said Newport boss Terry Butcher.

"It is every boy's dream to play for Manchester United, and it's a wonderful opportunity for him to progress at such a magnificent club. It doesn't matter which country you are in, or where you are in the world, when Manchester United come calling you have to answer."

"What it does show for our club is that there is a pathway right to the very top. Someone like Regan, who started of at Cardiff but was released and then came to us, it doesn't matter which age the players come to us they can emulate Regan's footsteps.

"It's a great boost for the club, in terms of the academy, the first team and the area of Newport. The region produces a lot of good, young footballing talent.

"We are active in the transfer market and there will be options for us when the loan window re-opens again in a week's time. There is a small legacy in many aspects that Regan has created, the money that he has generated could help to get other players and to give the younger boys that inspiration to possibly do what he's done one day."

Melo: Inter move is a dream come true

    felipe-melo-galatasaray_4520f9g3fv1s1o1lhnv5bqgp4.jpg

Felipe Melo says his belated arrival at Inter is the realisation of a dream.

The former Galatasaray midfielder has long been linked with the Nerazzurri but he looked set to remain in Istanbul after penning a new four-year contract with the Turkish champions on August 13.

However, Inter finally agreed a €3.7 million deal with the Super Lig side on Monday and Melo is delighted at having been reunited with Roberto Mancini, whom he worked under during the head coach's own spell with Gala..

"I thank God for this possibility," the 32-year-old told his new club's in-house TV channel.

"They have been speaking of me and Inter not for months, but years. So, coming here is a dream that has been realised.

"Roberto and I won together at Galatasaray. He's a winner and working for a man of his experience is wonderful. I'm nobody's favourite, though. I want to win and I want to do so at a historic club like Inter.

"The only thing I can guarantee is that I will give 100 per cent in every game, even when I'm not fully fit. I'm sure that the fans will get behind me. I fight on the field because that's my strength."

Inter will be Melo's third Italian club, with the Brazilian having previously enjoyed a successful season at Fiorentina before joining Juventus in 2009.

He failed dismally to justify his €25 million transfer fee in Turin, though, and ended up joining Gala in 2013 after two years on loan in Istanbul.

Dortmund: Grosskreutz to Galatasaray deal dead until Fifa clarify

    kevingrosskreutz-cropped_3bjobxwug6zk1sx320t7fj58a.jpg

Kevin Grosskreutz remains a Borussia Dortmund player for now after delays with his paperwork ahead of a move to Galatasaray.

The 27-year-old midfielder returned from long-standing knee problems during pre-season and had a very public falling out with coach Thomas Tuchel – leaving his future unclear.

A switch to the Istanbul club looked set to take place ahead of Monday's transfer deadline, but Dortmund claim the deal has yet to be verified and that both sides are awaiting Fifa clarification.

"The transfer agreed between Borussia Dortmund and Galatasaray for midfielder Kevin Grosskreutz to move to the Turkish top flight outfit has not yet gone through," a Dortmund club statement read.

"As always, Borussia Dortmund verifiably and without exception took all of the necessary steps required by the Fifa transfer matching system for the completion of a transfer - with regard to both deadline and form.

"Football's world governing body Fifa will now clarify the matter."

Man Utd hit back and blame Real Madrid for De Gea deal collapse

    1677382_heroa.jpg

Manchester United have hit back at Real Madrid after being accused by the Spanish club of being responsible for the collapse of David De Gea's move.

The Liga giants released a lengthy statement earlier on Tuesday in which they insisted they had done "everything necessary" to complete a deal, instead blaming United for the last-minute hitch.

But the Red Devils have offered a different version of events and believe they fulfilled their side of the deal, with the transfer actually failing to get over the line because Madrid did not upload De Gea's documents to either the TMS (Transfer Matching System) or Spanish league on time.

United also refute suggestions that they only opened negotiations on Monday, instead saying that Madrid's deadline day offer was the first official bid that had been made throughout the entire summer.

Despite the messy saga, and despite coming so close to replacing De Gea with Keylor Navas, the Red Devils were keen to stress that the Spanish shot-stopper is still very much a part of the first-team scene at Old Trafford and are "delighted" he remains at the club.

    3byB0X3.jpg

Manchester United notes Real Madrid’s statement on the attempt to sign David De Gea and sell Navas to Manchester United. The Club feels compelled to provide some clarification with the following facts.

    • Manchester United did not seek contact from Real Madrid for the sale of David. David is a key member of our squad and the club’s preference was not to sell.

    • No offer was received for David until yesterday.

    • At lunchtime yesterday, Real Madrid made its first offer to buy David. A deal was agreed between the clubs, which included Navas being transferred to Old Trafford. The deals were dependent on each other.

    • In the last several hours of the process, with Navas at the Real Madrid training ground, Real Madrid were controlling the documentation processes of David, Navas and Real Madrid. Manchester United was in control only of the documentation of Manchester United.

    • Manchester United sent transfer documents for both players to Real Madrid at 2042 BST. David’s documentation was returned by Real Madrid to Manchester United without the signatory page at 2232 BST.

    • At 22:40 BST, minutes before the deadline, major changes to the documentation came through to Manchester United which immediately put the deals at risk.

    • Only at 2255 BST were the documents that are needed to cancel David’s contract received by Manchester United from Real Madrid.

    • At this point Navas’ documentation was still not returned by Real Madrid.

    • At 2258 BST, the transfer agreement was sent back by Manchester United, uploaded onto TMS and accepted – all before the deadline.

    • It is our understanding that the deals couldn’t happen because:

    - Real Madrid didn’t upload David’s documents onto TMS in time (Manchester United did)

    - Real Madrid didn’t upload David’s documents to the Spanish league in time, per reports it seems some 28 minutes after the deadline

    • The fact that Manchester United filed the papers on time was acknowledged by the Football Association, who offered to support that claim in any discussions with FIFA. The Club offered this assistance, as well as its own timestamped documents to Real Madrid but they have chosen not to go down this route.

    • Manchester United acts appropriately and efficiently in its transfer dealings. The Club is delighted that its fan-favourite double Player of the Year, David de Gea, remains a Manchester United player.

Juventus failed in €25m Hamsik bid, reveal Napoli

    marek-hamsik-sassuolo-napoli-serie-a_1m9eqhbfpbumr10iaqar7mswr0.jpg

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed he rejected a €25 million bid from Juventus for Marek Hamsik on transfer deadline day.

Juve had an eventful day, which picked up in pace after they lost out on long-term target Julian Draxler, who opted to join Wolfsburg from Schalke.

Massimiliano Allegri’s men eventually signed Hernanes from Inter in an €11m deal and Mario Lemina on loan from Marseille in a frantic final few hours of the window, but not before they had failed in an attempt to sign Hamsik.

“This is a team which has kept its stars,” De Laurentiis told Radio Kiss Kiss.“Juventus wanted Hamsik for €25m, I asked them for Stefano Sturaro and Daniele Rugani and they refused… so they got Hernanes instead!

“We had offers totalling €98m, not including those for Gonzalo Higuain and not selling them is the same as if I had bought players worth that much.”

As well as keeping key stars like Hamsik and Higuain, Napoli - who have signed Nathaniel Chalobah on loan from Chelsea – also came close to landing Alessio Romagnoli earlier in the summer, only for De Laurentiis to see him join AC Milan for €25m from Roma when he was prepared to pay more.

He continued: “I offered Walter Sabatini €28m for Alessio Romagnoli and he then sold him for €3m less than previously discussed, but Vlad Chiriches is a good buy.
“If anything the problem isn’t that we couldn’t get Rugani or Romagnoli, it’s that identifying and getting the best central defenders is difficult.”Napoli have only picked up one point from their opening two Serie A matches going into the international break.

Dante: Wolfsburg want to annoy Bayern

    dante-cropped_du9jxw4jallz1b23ngbyh6xcs.jpg

Dante has warned former club Bayern Munich that Wolfsburg are out to "annoy" the Bundesliga champions this season.

The Brazilian centre-back, 31, swapped the Allianz Arena for the Volkswagen Arena before the end of the German transfer window on Monday after three trophy-laden seasons in Munich.

Wolfsburg were Bayern's closest challengers in the Bundesliga last season, and they followed up their DFB-Pokal win by beating the Bavarian giants in last month's DFL-Supercup.

Dante thinks that his new club - who also signed Julian Draxler on Monday after the sale of Kevin De Bruyne to Manchester City - are ready to fight his former employers again this term."Wolfsburg are trying to improve and this is also my goal," explained the 31-year-old. "We want to annoy Bayern Munich. We know it will be difficult but we will give everything we have got.

"I think it was a very good time at Bayern. It was a nice story, a very good three years. I won many titles there, but now it is over."I have to look forward. Now I will give everything I have got for Wolfsburg to help my team-mates."

Wolfsburg are back in action following the completion of the international break fortnight, when they travel to Ingolstadt.

Schweinsteiger: Manchester is not as bad as everybody thinks

    bastian-schweinsteiger-cropped_uj27p1egterq1jinhcw694b9j.jpg

Bastian Schweinsteiger says he is relishing life at Manchester United and insists that "Manchester is not as bad as everybody thinks."

The 31-year-old midfielder moved to Old Trafford in July, bringing an end to a trophy-laden 17-year stay at Bayern Munich.

Scweinsteiger has endured a low-key start at United – who have taken seven points from a possible 12 in their opening four games - but he is enjoying the challenge of adapting to the frantic pace of the Premier League.

"Of course everything is new to me. But it is a lot of fun," said Schweinsteiger on Tuesday while away on international duty with Germany.

"The club is huge. Sadly we gave away a few points in the last two games [a 0-0 draw with Newcastle United and Sunday's 2-1 defeat at Swansea City]. Otherwise we would be in a better position right now.

"So again it is a lot of fun and it is something really great to be there. We believe that the city is not that beautiful but I can say that the people are really nice and respectful. The city is nice as well."

Schweinsteiger has been reunited with former Bayern coach Louis van Gaal since joining United, and he has praised the Dutchman.

"Yes he is still the same Louis van Gaal that we all know," he added.

"He is very ambitious and he wants to win every game. He is a good guy and knows how to treat the team correctly.

"It is a lot of fun not just to work with him but with the whole team and the new players. The spirit of the team is great and I hope that we can use the dominance we already had in the games earlier to finally start winning."

    Galatasaray claim Grosskreutz deal done

    kevingrosskreutz-cropped_1aijdhx4slfoj1joetwgn2lp4y.jpg

Galatasaray have confirmed the €1.5 million signing of Borussia Dortmund winger Kevin Grosskreutz, despite Fifa still needing to ratify the deal.

Dortmund revealed on Tuesday that a deal was yet to be officialised by Fifa, despite their confidence that all criteria within the organisation's Transfer Matching System (TMS) had been met.

Although Fifa is yet to confirm all the conditions have been met, Galatasaray announced details of the Germany international's purchase late on Tuesday.

Grosskreutz, 27, has signed a three-year deal at the Turk Telekom Arena, where he joins the likes of Lukas Podolski, Wesley Sneijder and Fernando Muslera.

A Gala statement revealed Grosskreutz passed his medical well in advance, with details submitted five minutes before Monday's midnight deadline - although errors within the Fifa system prevented the move from being automatically completed.

Grosskreutz's deal was not the only transfer on Monday to be faced with Fifa TMS issues. In one of the biggest deadline day blunders ever, Real Madrid failed to buy David de Gea from Manchester United - in a deal that would have seen Keylor Navas going the other way - due to disrepancies over whether the contracts were filed on time.

Both clubs blame each other for the transfer swap gaffe and it looks like Madrid will have to wait until next summer to get their hands on De Gea, whom they pursued all summer long.

Ramos urges De Gea to bounce back after collapse of Real Madrid move

    sergio-ramos-cropped_gz636uphxyrc1200trn4vspr4.jpg

Sergio Ramos has urged Spain team-mate David de Gea to remain professional in the aftermath of the bizarre breakdown of his proposed move from Manchester United to Real Madrid.

De Gea, who has not featured this season for United amid the Spanish giants' pursuit of his isgnature, looked all set to join Madrid prior to Monday's close of the transfer window in La Liga after a deal was brokered that included Keylor Navas heading in the opposite direction.

But the relevant paperwork was not completed in time and the two clubs issued statements on Tuesday pointing accusing fingers at each other for the collapse of a transfer that had been mooted for months.

Ramos, who was a target for United until he signed a new long-term contract in August, was coy when quizzed on the situation but thinks that a pragmatic approach is now required from everyone involved.

"I haven't spoken to [De Gea] - sincerely, we haven't spoken - and I don't know what opinion he will have but. well, life is like that," the defender told reporters while on international duty with Spain.

"Sometimes, in some moments, it's our turn to experience it and deal with it in the best way possible. Everyone has to take responsibility for his reality and show his best level where he is."

Ramos added: "I've had the day off and the truth is I've been a little disconnected.

"I can't tell you anything. To talk about a footballer who isn't a Real Madrid player would be a lack of respect to any of my team-mates and, in that sense, we have two great goalkeepers and it doesn't depend on any Real Madrid player."

Sanchez slams 'scoundrel' Van Gaal over Hernandez penalty reaction

    louis-van-gaal_16znrgnigxaj3zvjx9kxfgznc.jpg

Mexico and Real Madrid legend Hugo Sanchez has labelled Louis van Gaal a "scoundrel" for his reaction to Javier Hernandez missing a penalty.

The Manchester United manager's reaction to Chicharito missing his side's spot kick - falling on his backside and spooning the effort wide - in last week's Champions League win over Club Brugge went viral.

Van Gaal was caught on camera giving his assistant Ryan Giggs a glare that was translated by many on social outlets to spell the end of the Mexican forward's time at Old Trafford.

That turned out to be the case as Hernandez joined Bayer Leverkusen for an undisclosed fee on the Bundesliga transfer deadline day, signing a three-year deal to end his five years at United.

"Van Gaal made a bad decision – and it's not one he's done for the first time, he's done it 50,000 times," Sanchez told Futbol Picante in reference to Van Gaal's reaction."I've coached and a coach cannot do that to their own player. I'd go out and applaud him and tell him to trust in himself. But that look he gave Giggs… What a scoundrel.

"It was a bad game for Chicharito but any player in the world can do that. Van Gaal is a scoundrel; hopefully those in England realise he is a bad person and treats his players poorly.

"He should be professional. The players deserve professional and humane treatment."

Costa Rica give Keylor Navas time off after Madrid's De Gea blunder

    david-de-gea-keylor-navas-spain-costa-rica-11062015_1l1wgs4o6iox51etxb7rso1epk.jpg

Keylor Navas has been given permission by Costa Rica to stay in Spain during the international break to “tend to his situation” at Real Madrid .

The goalkeeper has endured a topsy turvy 72 hours – despite starting the season as the Blancos' No.1 following Iker Casillas' sale, he was offered to Manchester United on Monday as part of a deal for David de Gea.

However, incompetence from the two Champions League rivals led to the deal not being completed before the transfer window deadline and both goalkeepers will remain at their current clubs.

Having gone from preparing to leave La Liga for the Premier League to being aware he is rooted to Madrid until at least January, Navas has been allowed to take some time off to gather his thoughts by Costa Rica's football federation (Fedefutbol).

"Navas will not join up with Costa Rica," Fedefutbol's official Twitter account stated on Tuesday. "The federation and head coach Oscar Ramirez will give him space to tend to his situation with Real Madrid."

Meanwhile Keylor's father, Freddy Navas, has attacked the Spanish press for the way he believes they vilified his son, but believes Madrid fans are behind him following his penalty-saving performance in Saturday's 5-0 victory over Real Betis.
"The Spanish media want to have a Spanish goalkeeper at Real Madrid, they can't accept a Central American player there," he told Pasion Deportiva . "They know he's the best, but they can't accept it.

"Seeing him be cheered by the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday sent shivers down my spine and brought tears to my eyes. He has one of the most difficult tasks at one of the biggest clubs in the world. We are proud of him.

"Keylor tells me he has the support of the dressing room. Marcelo, Cristiano Ronaldo, James Rodriguez... They all love him because he's quiet and humble."
Navas, 28, shot to global stardom as Costa Rica's shot-stopper during the 2014 World Cup, when the little-fancied Central American nation reached the quarter-final stage.

Subsequently, he secured a €10 million move to Real Madrid from Levante – with whom he had become one of the most reliable goalkeepers in La Liga – as competition for club captain Casillas.Navas remained rooted to the bench for much of 2014-15, featuring 11 times in all competitions, but Casillas' exit to Porto has led to him becoming Rafa Benitez's first choice ahead of summer signing Kiko Casilla.

Costa Rica play two friendlies in this international break without Navas: first up is a clash with Brazil on Saturday September 5 in New Jersey, followed by a home tie against Uruguay three days later.

    :shocked:Premier League spending hits £1bn in 2015

    1856282_heroa.jpg

Transfer spending in the Premier League has reached £1 billion in a calendar year for the first time.

The English summer transfer window closed on Tuesday, with close-season spending reaching a new record of £870 million, according to analysis by business advisory firm Deloitte.

This marked a rise of four per cent on the 2014 figure of £835m and moves overall spending to the £1bn barrier when added to the £130m outlay by clubs during the January market.

Alex Thorpe, senior manager in the Sports Business Group at Deloitte, said: "With all 20 of the Premier League clubs now ranked in the top 40 globally by revenue, we have seen clubs across the league compete successfully in the market for international talent.

"Premier League clubs' gross spending on players from overseas clubs this summer totalled more than half a billion pounds.

"Looking across Europe, Premier League clubs' gross and net spending this summer is more than double that of any other European league. The driving force behind this is the growth and distribution mechanism of the league’s broadcast rights."

Manchester United's deadline-day swoop for Monaco youngster Anthony Martial took spending on the final day to around £90m - up from around £85m 12 months ago.

United's neighbours, Manchester City, recorded the highest gross spend by a Premier League club in the English summer window, with big-money moves to bring in Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Otamendi and Kevin De Bruyne making up the bulk of a £160m outlay.

The combined gross spending of the four English teams taking part in the Champions League - City, United, Chelsea and Arsenal - stands at £340m, or 40% of the Premier League's total.

Across Europe's other 'big five' leagues, Serie A recorded the next highest gross spend of £405m. This was a shade above the £400m cumulatively brought up by La Liga, while the figure stood at £290m and £220m, respectively, in the Bundesliga and Ligue 1.

Dortmund were not totally resistant to the sale, and quoted United a price of £60m to begin discussions, but the Old Trafford club were only willing to go as far as £50m.

United are set to pay a reported fee of £36m for Martial, with sources telling ESPN FC that Monaco upped their price for the 19-year-old by £15m because they knew that United were eager to add a forward as Wayne Rooney remains the only senior striker in their squad.
