Square Enix removes Denuvo anti-tamper tech from Life is Strange: Before the Storm
Now here is a pleasant surprise. The second episode of Life is Strange: Before the Storm has just been released on Steam. And from the looks of it, Square Enix has removed the Denuvo anti-tamper tech. Square Enix has used Denuvo in pretty much all of its latest titles, and this is perhaps the only one for which Denuvo has been removed.

Some of Square Enix’s games that use the Denuvo anti-tamper tech are: Just Cause 3, Rise of the Tomb Raider and NieR Automata. As said, this is the only game for which Square Enix removed the Denuvo anti-tamper tech.
What’s also curious here is that the upcoming HD remake of Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope will use Denuvo. According to its Steam store page, Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope Remaster incorporates 3rd-party DRM: Denuvo Anti-tamper.
We don’t know whether Denuvo was removed by a mistake or not. In the past we’ve seen developers and publishers releasing – by mistake – patches without the Denuvo anti-tamper tech. Most of them are usually quick to react and release hotfixes that re-introduce Denuvo. As such, it remains to be seen whether this is a similar case or not.
