My dad is a retired government officer and now he is doing external investigations for government institutions. He is using one of my laptops but since I will move to a place of my own, I have to buy him a computer to use Microsoft Office Package, A web browser to eMail soft copies to be printed.

So i was surfing and looking at stuff online and noticed that windows can be installed on Raspberry Pi architectures... and they usually last for like 5 years. So tell me wise ass brothers. is it a good idea to buy him a Pi with a 21inch used monitor or a used laptop?

Don't laugh at me, I know these are for programming and miniature systems.

Its ARM based ban there are less apps for RPI Windows version and you cannot run x86 or x64 apps.
If it's only for Office and browser stuff you can go for a Mini PC, which will cost you around 30 to 45k, for that much of money its easier for you to get a laptop with decent specs ( a 2nd Hand one) ..
Even latest RPI4 claims it has Desktop performance, when it's come to GPU it bottlenecks.
Go for a used laptop which is upgradable, not the ones with soldered components to the board

used laptops will not last much. it can die even within a year.

there are mini pc systems. like Intel NUC or similar . these are great for your requirements.

Thanks machan, I have bad experiences when it comes to buying 2nd hand stuff. My luck has a hilak in it. Since this is for my old man I think Mini PC would be a good option. He doesn't need upgrades ban. Just a web browser and Microsoft office, word.. for the most part. Thanks again... if you could remember some good brands or places to buy a MiniPC pl respond..

Form your requirements I see that you really need to run windows, with raspberry pi you can browse web, do office work with out much issue, but from what I know windows arm edition is still in beta stage, but there are ways to emulate.
Or you can get Pi 4 4GB one and have smooth PC like exprence(if your main purpose is just to browse web & do office work), and simply you can use office online for work.
