I'm also using an intel MBP with 8 Gigs for several years now.
Never got stuck nor had any RAM issues while doing heavy development work.
Probably an issue with my mac then

you must be not using your mac to the highest potential or you must be using something else. heavy software consuming ram will run you over . trust me when I say this

well as a developer Im very disappointed in 8GB version, the office gave me this and when it comes to multi tasking it flies. Overrole better than the intel. But when you run multiple instances with simulation compiling is little bit slow and other apps become bit laggish
