Well you got to learn to draw the line somewhere.Well the job puts food on your table, it's the second most important thing in your life after your family.
Unless it's a shitty company (in which case you should leave the company) you should always do your best, that's how you get better at what you do and nobody wants people that are not passionate about their jobs. You are going to end up wasting everybody's time.
Also there is no place called "good companies, good cultures etc". It is just shit brought make people feel guilty and oblidged to work their asses off regardless of what they pay.
But I think best way not to get disappointed is to treat a job as a job and not part of your life.
Also my moto is "The company needs me more than I need the company"
