The neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine appear to play a role in the attentional and behavioral symptoms of ADHD. A doctor cannot tell you in advance a particular drug works for you or whether if it will work at all. So generally a trial is made while changing drug regimes. Quite often, adults with ADHD could present with other conditions that need additional treatment as well.
