These wars are not conventional wars unlike world war 1 or 2, even Israel 6 day war... More into guerilla warfare... Cant find the real enemy, mixed with regular people, one person can wait for long time and do a big damage.

Same happened to USA in Vietnam, Russia in Afgan (1980s) etc.
