It's generally believed that the beaked birds had an evolutionary advantage. It was just a lucky break. All birds now alive are toothless but it wasn't so always. For eg the Archaeopteryx had a full set of teeth. The transition of some birds to the toothless form happened long before the K-Pg extinction and the beaked birds survived. Beaked birds could survive with seeds.
