Toyota Hybrid tech (and their eCVT transmission) is arguably the best in the world for reliablity and durability..
It`s still a larg(ish) SUV, driving pleasure/fun does not exist in these, so hybrid should not be a problem.. These dont have a eCVT as far as i know, it`s a 8 speed traditional automatic.
326 horsepower and 465 lb. -ft. in this i-force powertrain is easily more than a traditional V6. A V6 also cant generate low end touque like a hybrid does (should be bloody awsome offroad).. Diesel is dead technology now, so diesel 4WD`s are a thing in the past, unless you want an old diesel 4WD to do proper extreme/remote offroading where simplicity is a must to fix things yourself..
Considering how smooth, efficient and powerful modern hybrids are, as a day-to-day hack (not something like a sports car bought to enjoy driving), I would buy a hybrid over a normal ICE powered car.. They have come a long way since the early days.. I am thinking of a Lexus NX 350H next when my current CRV craps itself
