Check the Video Above Made Especially For The 5 Year Memorial Of The Tsunami And Leave Your Comments!
- Five years ago, we witnessed what is now known as the second largest earthquake ever recorded on a seismograph. This earthquake had the longest duration of faulting ever observed, between 8.3 and 10 minutes. It caused the entire planet to vibrate as much as 1 cm and triggered other earthquakes as far away as Alaska.
- With a magnitude of 9.0, the energy released on the Earth's surface only, which is the seismic potential for damage, by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami was estimated at 26.3 megatons of TNT. This energy is equivalent to over 1502 times that of the Hiroshima atomic bomb, but less than that of Tsar Bomba, the largest nuclear weapon ever detonated.
- The casualties which resulted have never been accurately recorded while estimates have put the figure as high as 30,000 lives lost just in Sri Lanka. The total death toll in the whole region exceeds 200,000+.
Let Us Remember Those We Lost On 26-12-2004!
