Sri Lankan born Conservative Member of the European Parliament Niranjan Deva Adithiya (Niranjan Joseph "Nirj" De Silva Deva-Aditya) says that the conditions laid down by the European Union to extend the GSP Plus trade concession to Sri Lanka for a period of six months, have nothing to do with politics and are purely an administrative measure.
Deva Adithiya has been quoted in the local media today (27) saying that the EU was not trying to interfere in Sri Lankan affairs, as it is Sri Lanka that had signed the international conventions.
He has explained that the EU has only requested Sri Lanka to initiate the process of implementing the necessary laws that have been outlined in the conventions the country has signed and show its commitment. According to Deva Adithiya, the EU was only asking the government to honour "what it has promised to the EU."
Mr. Niranjan is a big supporter of president mahinda & his government.
Even Mr. Niranjan can see whats going on, the government does not want to respect the rights of the people.
