Our family home was on Perehara Mawatha in the late 1980s, overlooking the serene waters of Beira Lake. From our balcony, we had the rare privilege of watching the Nawam Perahera as it made its majestic journey around the lake—a spectacle that remains one of my fondest childhood memories. Back then, the lake was remarkably clean, and a pleasant walking path encircled its shores, making it a beautiful place for leisurely strolls. Those were truly special days, and the memories remain as vivid as ever.
