Is buying an e-ink reader worth it? I just read books on my iPad mini 3 and mini 7 just because it syncs the reading position everywhere and comes with the dictionary. I've always wanted to try out an e-ink display but all the videos on YT show how laggy they are. Currently I use an iPad Mini 3 specifically to read books because it is so old so nothing else works on it (so no unwanted distractions) and the battery lasts for days. Just wondering if the e-ink screen is worth it for the asking price. What is your experience?
You can use kindle app to synchronize reading location between devices. Kindle app is supported on both ipad and android devices. Refresh rate is always an issue with e ink devices. But compared with older generations new gen kindles have faster refresh rates.

E ink has a different reading experience compared with LCD or OLED screens. It's like reading a book. So you'll need a external light source to read it. Kindle Paperwhite has a front light for that. Kindle basic version doesn't come with front light as a feature so you'll need an external light source. Basically more the light it's easier to read unlike a LCD or OLED screen. Eye strain is less for me but that of course subjective. Other than that ipad mini with a matte screen attached is pretty much same with kindle. Some hate it some loves it. You'd better see for yourself before buying one.

Main problem with e ink devices is the durability. If the device falls or some one sits on it screen gets cracked. E ink devices can't use reinforced glasses like Gorilla glass due to reflection. But if you use it carefully I think you can manage for more than 5 years. Battery usually last for 3-4 weeks with 1 hr of daily reading.

Oh thanks for the heads up. That means it won't even survive a day with my kid. You have my gratitude for that info. I never even knew about that. iPad mini for another couple of years then. 🙏

If you are going to the book fair, prices are ridiculous and there are only couple of hard to find stalls that have deals on used books. People are there to buy school stationary, eat maggi and chill. I went to buy Sanna's new Sinhala Grammar book and it is just effin stupid. Looks like books is written with AI and it is not what you think it is at all. Just primary school grammar with lots and lots of random words.
