    A land like no other
    Great article but its a bit too much of a biased perspective. Decades of peace talks have failed so obviously I don’t think we can come up with an absolute answer on this forum so please keep the conversation civil. I am just merely giving an insight of the other side of the story. If you look at the facts, If Sri Lankans support Israel, it might look somewhat hypocritical. Makes me think the readers are influenced more from the anti Islamic trends growing in Sri Lanka rather than actual facts and such an article could easily be used to ignite more hatred towards Islam. Education is the main aim of my post, and I am neither Islamic, Jewish nor Palestinian. I am an independent observer who is unbiased.

    Anyways, let us recap the birth of Israel and what the article glorifies.
    They placed a mass of persecuted people (Jews) fleeing from the anti-Semitic Europe, in Palestine which was under British rule at the time during World war 2. Palestine already had indigenous people living there (Palestinians). Yet the UN introduced a partition plan which separated the country which gave majority of the land to the refugee Jewish people. Israel was born on top of an already established country. So how did Israel grow that rapidly? Because of the one sided UN partition plan, neighboring countries came to protect the rights of historic Palestine and its people. War forced millions of Palestinian inhabitants to flee. When they came back after the war, they could not return to their homes, because now it was Israel- a new country. These people are still refugees in neighboring Jordan and Syria or stuck in Gaza.

    Israel had the backing of USA and is still the number 1 beneficiary in foreign aid. Post world war 2, any country taking on Israel would end up taking on USA and its allies. This is the number 1 reason why the attempts to take Israel has failed. Russia do sell arms to Arabic states but is nothing in comparison to what USA does to Israel.

    So where does the hypocrisy come in? Lets look at a hypothetical scenario and put the situation in a Sri Lankan civil war context. I can’t highlight the term “Hypothetical” enough.
    1948 - Sri Lanka is a British Colony. They bring millions of Tamil refugees and base them in Sri Lanka, separate the country and call it Elam because some ancient religious book talked of a promised land. the Tamils get majority of the land according to the UN. Some neiboring countries are pissed off and try to help you but the Tamils have the backing of USA, Canada and England. Sinhalese lose 79% of Sri lanka and that area is called Elam. Your grandparents who lived in these lands are now refugees living in camps in India and Maldives. Your parents are born in these refugee camps. 1988 you are born a refugee. You hear about your home land from your grand parents but you cannot return. Your relatives didn’t flee. Now they are stuck in the coastline of Colombo (GAZA strip) and your baby cousins just died of a tit for tat missile attack.
    How would you feel? Who do you think is correct? Would you fight to win your homeland back? Would you join a group like Hamas? How would you feel when you see your children getting killed in air strikes? Would you still think USA are the good guys?
    But doesn’t Israel belong to the Jewish people? Doesn’t it say in the Bible? Didn’t Moses lead the Jews from Egypt to the promised land? were there already inhabitants there when they came? Lets look at history of the region. The region was under Romans, Byzantines, Islamic rule (638 – 1099), Christian Crusades (who slaughtered Jewish people btw) and Saladin (Islamic rule again), then the British Colonists (1917). How far in history would you look back to determine ownership of the land? The majority Palestinians who lost their land in 1948 are descendants from over a thousand year generation which would earn them the right of being recognized as indigenous inhabitants. Does UN, USA and its allies have the right to give 79% of the country to refugee Jewish people? As Sri Lankans, we know how we feel when these countries dictate how we run our country. How would we feel if this happened to us? Please do your research and always try to see both perspectives.

    Wow! what a load of crap.
    How does arabs became indigenous in palestine?
    If a longstanding presence of bunch of conquerors can make them indigenous
    then British who conquered Sri Lanka become the indigenous people of Sri Lanka. :rofl:

    "Israel was born on top of an already established country" :rofl::rofl::rofl: Palestine was found in 1988.

    I guess the hypocrisy comes in when the self-proclaimed "unbiased" observer
    doesn't know jack shit about what he is blabbering about.

    Facts from Holy bible about Israel-For education purposes not for critisisisiam

    This is what i know.

    Holy bible old testament is all about God's creation and the history of Jewish nation Israel.Here are some quotes from the bible where Jewish GOD(Same GOD of the Christians said about the nation of Israel. Christian Prophet Jesus is Jewish by nationality.

    Isaiah 44 New King James Version (NKJV)

    God’s Blessing on Israel

    44 “Yet hear now, O Jacob My servant,
    And Israel whom I have chosen.
    2 Thus says the Lord who made you
    And formed you from the womb, who will help you:
    ‘Fear not, O Jacob My servant;
    And you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
    3 For I will pour water on him who is thirsty,
    And floods on the dry ground;
    I will pour My Spirit on your descendants,
    And My blessing on your offspring;
    4 They will spring up among the grass
    Like willows by the watercourses.’
    5 One will say, ‘I am the Lord’s’;
    Another will call himself by the name of Jacob;
    Another will write with his hand, ‘The Lord’s,’
    And name himself by the name of Israel.

    Deuteronomy 28:1-68 ESV

    “And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God. Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock. Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.

    Genesis 27:29
    May nations serve you and peoples bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, and may the sons of your mother bow down to you. May those who curse you be cursed and those who bless you be blessed."

    Genesis 28:14
    Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.

    Exodus 23:22
    If you listen carefully to what he says and do all that I say, I will be an enemy to your enemies and will oppose those who oppose you.

    Numbers 24:9
    Like a lion they crouch and lie down, like a lioness--who dares to rouse them? "May those who bless you be blessed and those who curse you be cursed!"

    Zechariah 12:1-14 ESV / 88 helpful votes

    The burden of the word of the Lord concerning Israel: Thus declares the Lord, who stretched out the heavens and founded the earth and formed the spirit of man within him: “Behold, I am about to make Jerusalem a cup of staggering to all the surrounding peoples. The siege of Jerusalem will also be against Judah.

    (Judah (Hebrew: יְהוּדָה‎, Standard Yehuda Tiberian Yəhūḏāh) was, according to the Book of Genesis, the fourth son of Jacob and Leah, and the founder of the Israelite Tribe of Judah).Wekipidia.

    On that day I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples. All who lift it will surely hurt themselves. And all the nations of the earth will gather against it. On that day, declares the Lord, I will strike every horse with panic, and its rider with madness. But for the sake of the house of Judah I will keep my eyes open, when I strike every horse of the peoples with blindness. Then the clans of Judah shall say to themselves, ‘The inhabitants of Jerusalem have strength through the Lord of hosts, their God.

    I will machan. But I cant guarantee for others. Please do add what you know

    Dude, Jews were living amongst many other races(some of which became Muslims afterwards). But Jews stayed Jewish all those times. I think even you know that

    What went wrong was Jews had insane memory. The will to return their holy land even after thousands of years !

    The world conventional, rules and regulations are not designed to cope with such willpower.

    And you ask how far you have to go. Go as far as you can and whenever you find whoever not Jews established in there, there will be Jews alongside with them.

    That is why you cant blame neither Muslims nor the Jews for wanting the area. They are equally rightful.

    So whats the problem ?
    British helped to rebuild Jewish homeland YES . But they did also established Palestine
    Which Palestine ? The land of which current Israel+Palestine+WestBank+ And Jordan combined. It was one land back then.

    It was only later the land was partitioned thus effectively cut off Jews passage to the East part of the Palestine. The Palestine nation was already established. Just under differ name. What of Israel ?

    Muslims hated Jews even before they set foot on Palestine. some of them even actively supported Hitler. So naturally, they protested Jewish immigration

    Thats why the need of Israel arose.

    And you say of majority partition of Palestine. Bro greater majority of it already given to Muslims as Trans Jordan !

    Yet. Yet...British offered only 20% of partitioned(current) Palestine to Jews in 1937. Called Peel Commission. Jews accepted, Muslims said NO.
    There were several other partition plans which on all occasions Jews accepted and Muslims not only vehemently rejected but also unleashed Jihad.

    .... War forced millions of Palestinian inhabitants to flee. When they came back after the war, they could not return to their homes, because now it was Israel- a new country. These people are still refugees in neighboring Jordan and Syria or stuck in Gaza.

    In the verge of 1948 war Muslim leaders asked Muslims to retreat temporary so they can return later after victory. Some those refugees you are talking of comprised with such.

    And even after victory, Jews offered citizenship to some of Muslims. Which was rejected by majority under the influence of losing leaders.

    Some did accepted. That is why 25% in Israel are Muslims !

    And.. after 1948 war, The King in Jordan annexed West Bank. Egypt took Gaza Strip. It never occurred to either one of them help and establishing Palestinian state. :)

    After Jews immigration there were lot of Jewish and Muslim refugees from prolonging chaos and wars. Today .. there are 0 jewish refugees because Jewish leader helped them to settle in the land.

    What of Palestinians ? Non of the other Arab countries did give a shit. And they wanted Palestinian refugees for their propaganda.

    US may have given arms for free and even throw a plane or two to sweeten the deal. But who went to the front ? American soldiers ? It was always heavily outnumbered Jews. This is why US had to help them in great degree.

    Whereas Russian had to do little as their proxy army were much bigger.
    And..............its just me and you speculating of US and Russias intentions :D

    These facts are highly controverted. Which is why I sticked to the official sources. :)

    So where does the hypocrisy come in? Lets look at a hypothetical scenario and put the situation in a Sri Lankan civil war context..... and always try to see both perspectives.

    I think I already answered this part.

    Yes. Those people lived in modern day Israel, Palestine and Jordan. But in those days much of the Israel and Palestine was uninhabited. European Jews came to this uninhabited desert lands.

    neighboring countries came to protect the rights of historic Palestine and its people. War forced millions of Palestinian inhabitants to flee. When they came back after the war, they could not return to their homes, because now it was Israel- a new country. These people are still refugees in neighboring Jordan and Syria or stuck in Gaza.

    Neighboring countries didn't come to protect Palestinians. They didn't even recognized Palestinians as a independent people. That's why from the 50's to 70's Egypt and Jordan occupied Gaza and West bank. No Palestinian ever said anything about their independence in those days.

    Those Neighboring countries waged war to destroy Israel and Jews. They purposefully forced the Palestinians out of their homes and made them refugees. Still Egypt and Jordan has not given citizenship to those refugees or their decedents.
