You can change the religion as much as you like(there are no documents needed) . As long as religion accepts you ok. For eg there may be some rituals needed to be accepted as person of that religion for buddhism there is no special rituals to be , but other religions such as Muslim and Catholics have some . So you can abandon any religion and become a buddist easily and not satisfied can change again but then rules relating to that religion may apply.
You can use your present religion for any future applications, forms. You cannot change the past ! eg SWRD changed his religion to buddhism but by birth his religion remains what your parents religion.
