a little help...!

There are two main things that you need to know of this!!
1. you need to know electronics 2. then port programing with 3rd generation language such as C; turbo Pascale. (personally i preferred Pascale).

1.Note: You must create an interface circuit which should place between the computer port and the external circuit. This circuit will isolate your computer from possible hi-voltages from the circuit side.

2.Note: If you need to get a feedback from your circuit to PC via Port, you need to create another circuit to convert analog signal in to digital format. however asp per your Vesak_Thoran scenario, this is not very impotent.

If you can spend your time in this field, you may be able to do wonderful inventions. South Koreans are the experts in this field, so if you have time, try to find more information from their forums. (When I saw some inventions of Korean school students, I felt our Electronic/Telco students’ exhibitions as stupid games of little children.)

In 2000 -2003 time, one sri lanken university lecture who was working in "Open university" wrote a book on this topic in Sinhala. You may still be able to find it form local book-shops. As far as I can remember, it was also not a good book which gave a clear knowledge on this topic.
