In English you will run into certain situations when you can't find a direct word to word translation from another language. This can be easily remedied with use of expressive writing.

No one who writes and speak English will go over the top to find a word to express this in exact way you would say in Sinhala, rather will come up with a clever sentence maybe with little bit of humor in it to express the true feeling.

"අරූ කටපාඩම් කරල තමා විභාගෙ පාස් උනේ"

That fellow was an absolute parrot when it comes to studying, manages to pass most exams with sheer memorizations but I wouldn't be asking any serious subject matter from the fellow.
