yeah it's bundled up with k-lite codec pack. I don't see any drawbacks since it's glory days though. quick and simple ;)
however I use powerdvd for movies which i think is the best quality wise :)
if it works great for you, no problem, keep enjoying that's what matters at the end.

try to use madVR renderer with MPC or Pot, powerdvd can't match the quality of MadVR.
but to get the best quality you need a beefy GPU, with the right settings, you can even run 3090 to 100%

I'm running with very basic quality settings with my lttle RX550 to watch 1080p videos to 1080p screen.
If you have Radeon GCN series GPU try Blueksy FRC to interpolate 23fps to 60 or 75fps, if you like that effect (which I always use)
if you don't have a GCN card, you can try SVP (paid software though).

thanks for the info i'll definitely give it a try and give a feedback. mine also a midrange one (gtx 1050)
how's the audio on pot player? why i like powerdvd is also the audio quality. it gives a magical feeling while watching movies with the support of dolby app. i've tried mpc, vlc and kmplayer but only powerdvd was able to utilise its true flavour :)

I'm using LAVFilter audio decoder to handle audio decoding & then pass to Pot's default WASAPI renderer to output via toslink to my Atom DAC+.
LAV audio filter provide two or three dolby prologic, prologic2 etc settings but others has to configured manually like 5.1 to stereo, normalization etc, It doesn't provide dts headphones, dolby headphones like support but you can pass those streams untouched & allow external DAC/AV receiver to decode it.

I tried madvr with svp on mpc and it was amazing :love2:
is there a way to get similar kinda performance only using madvr ?

madVR doesn't have frame interpolation feature what SVP does, madVR alone can't add that smooth motion effect.
but madVR does frame copying type frame rate change to match your monitor's refresh rate.
so it's also much easier to watch for longer duration without eye fatigue but no smooth motion effect.

sadly to get motion interpolation you have to use svp or BlueSky Frame rate Converter (AMD GCN cards Only& free) for that.
