a few years ago I was watching swarnavaihani and they showed a univercity professor had successfully built a mini plane what can be used as UAV and the way it was shown people who dont know much about this subject will think that sri lanka is the next level of Japan. actually its nothing in china these are school projects. making a radio controlled plane is nothing even DIY kids do it. that concept is nthing new. actually if LTTE was active now they would have made a few attempts on planes as compared to 10 years ago.
in australia you get kits that can be assembled

Also part of the problem is with Journalism, most of the journalists are not techy people, probably coming from arts stream and some of the regular tech are like magic to them. But they are the ones deciding what to report and how to report it, often without fact checking. Articles and news titles are formatted to draw much attention as possible, like some single invention alone will make Sri Lankan economy successful.

The problem is not only with what the innovators do, but how it is presented to public by media and how the general public understands it.

once again he has just assembled it. all those components are readily avaliable in australia. Kid sfly these things in summer. nothing new machan. you get nitrogen engines and kids make small cars and have RC events. this is not invention.
recently derana was showing a girl who works in royle royce saying that she had made an engine....nonesense.

Yeah i understand, we too used to make them when we were in uni. But it's the first time i saw someone make that VTOL to horizontal flight conversion drone in SL.
I know even that is not new, but it's just a regular DIY Youtube channel doing those stuff. What I'm trying to say is that there is a DIY community in SL, but most of the time it's the media that confuses people by reporting them like magic, or something that's never been done before without fact checking.

me too. had they built a Ebike with a range of 120km per charge that would have sold in sri lanka like cakes. at least it would serve the masses
