After 1972 the national anthem is in the Constitution with the music notes and it is only in Sinhala. If it is done in another language (English , Arabic, Tamil, etc) it will be a violation of constitution. National anthem can only be sung in Sinhalese and also according to the music notes (notes are in Eastern and Western Music)
this did not apply to 1949 as we did not have a official national anthem at that time like now and it was not included in the constitution prepared by the British(Ceylon Independence Order in Council)

What are the languages that Sri Lanka constitution accepted as National Languages? Then you get your answer.


By the way I'm not agree to sing National Anthem in Tamil or any other language beside Sinhala because current anthem's music notes and words not composed to that. Its like singing Titanic theme song in Sinhala to the original melody with Sinhala words.
