    Some insight......

Earlier there was a scheme for this called "Blue Permit". It was issued by the Import Control Department based on the amount of foreign exchange remitted to the country. Not it has been discontinued. If the Import Controller issues a Blue Permit anyone can import the vehicle used abroad by that person.

Gift scheme was another one where one can send a vehicle to a blood relative. That also requires the approval from Import Controller.

    Carnet.

This allows someone to bring something (Car, Camera, Analytical equipment, etc...) to Sri Lanka (or to any other country) without paying any Customs duty. However, the same should be re-exported within the stipulated period.

So machan u r saying this scheme is still available right? And we don't have to pay any taxes if we import our own vehicle under the blue permit. Do we?

I think the problem lies with wording "stipulated period" :sorry:
