You younger generation live with electronics. But during my time electricity was a luxury. Only very few households can afford to have electricity. At that time "FLASHER KOTE" is the ultimate in electric lighting. Whether you believe it or not I build my very first flasher at the age of 9, (in 1971 wesak, which was the first troublesome wesak season in history). I can still remember it was only 10 bulbs placed like an arch either side of a Buddha statue, and lighting upwards and downwards. It's build out of LAKSPRAY (milk powder tin),each day I had to stick new gum tapes and replace old ones, because they start to burn with sparks. The slow RPM being archived through an old alarm clock mechanism coupled to a 1.5V motor. Being the eldest son in my family, I had the privilege of doing what I wants, but that does not mean I am on top of everything.
We older generation had to live with lots and lots of hardship, NEMISIS said he climb up on areca nut palms, I never climbed on them but, collect them and sell them to make money, not only that, we had some coffee plants and I used to pick the up, sun dry them and sell to a merchant who visits our place every week . 100 arica nuts (PUWAK) only makes 10 cents. 2 pounds of coffee ( SERUWAK) payed some 25 cents. But a 5 watt (Japanese) light globe was 90 cents, and a 1.5v motor is 1.50 rupees. I'll tell you more later.
