This is not an uncommon thing in Sri Lanka. All politicians and even law enforcement authorities and specially the Bus Drivers and even threewheeler drivers do not respect the law.
Politicians kill people in broad day light in front of large crowd and flee the country and stay in impunity. When they finally arrive to Sri Lanka our chief law officer the Attorney General does not object to the grant of bail and our Honourable High Court grants bail.
We all know when a villager kills another in a fight he is remanded for months and years. The Attorney General objects to bail being granted . These people cannot fee the country and there is no threat of them absconding .
When it comes to road rules only a few would obey them . The worst offenders are the Politicians and their stooges and other law enforcement officers.
The Private buss drivers and most of the threeweeler drivers are extremely friendy(I use this word as I have some respect for honest police offiers) with Police. So they violate the law with impunity.
Even in a Fatal Accident , they only fear the mob or crowd that gather. The commuters in the bus always support an errant and careless driver who take them to the destination fast!
Most of the accidents from private buses are preventable if the commuters are vigilent and object to the manner in which the bus is driven before the accident. But unfortunately commuters raise their voice if the driver is careful and drives slowly. All they concern is the speed. So they respond to the demand .
The commuters in the bus do not think that they get down from it and belong to pedestrians when they are inside the bus. This unfortunate situation had resulted busses driven with excessive speeds without respect for road rules.
