Yes.. I just returned from Machu Picchu - last 2 and 3 Jan 2018. Stayed in Hotel Hatun Samay for two nights. First day it rained the whole day. Visited the Machu Picchu site on the 3rd January. Left the hotel early at 5.30AM and took the bus ride. Superb weather throughout the day - even though it is the rainy season. When we got there it was quite foggy and not much visibility. But later the skies cleared and stunning views. Also took the trek to Inti-Punku the "Sun Gate".
    Well worth a visit.

Are you sure that you went to Machu Pichu, As far as I know, Machu Pichu is about 20km walk from nearest town. You have to spend a night at a camp. One of my good friend's brother went 2 weeks back.

Hello.. I have been to most of the countries around the world - more than once and hasn't only been in Russia yet. That's my next.
As for Machu Picchu - we stayed in Cusco for two nights. Cusco is at an elevation of 3400m. Some have difficulty in breathing. There are medicines to help and coca tea is available in the hotel round the clock, which also eases the high altitude problems.
From Cusco drove to Ollantaytambo - stayed in Hotel Pakaritampu - Sacred Valley. Then took the Vistadome train (approx $95 US one way- operated by Peru Rail - There are cheaper options too including a standard normal rail services) to Aguas Calientes - effectively the small township of Machu Picchu where we stayed for the night. Early morning took the shuttle bus (about $24 US return)- left the hotel at 5.30AM - there was a big queue for the bus. There are 26 small buses running one after the other. Took more than 30 minutes for us to board. The bus takes you right at the doorstep of Machu Pichchu.
Well... if you don't take he bus then you have to walk just like you mentioned. if anyone needs more details I am happy to provide. Regards.
