Ah. That's why? But I doubt whether there were hundreds of deaths due to starvation during that period in sri lanka. People had hard time for sure. Death by starvation is unheard of in the recent history. People could have been malnourished. But death by starvation is kinda impossible given the food availability in sri lanka. There are many alternatives like maniok, jack fruit. And the culture generally helps people in need. Highly doubt some one died due to starvation here. Just interested to see the source for your claim.

My mother told me about a few people who died due to lack of food - getting sick & die. You can't "see" that source for sure, but if you are willing to find them just talk with enough people who've been through that era & I'm pretty sure you'll find out.

We may never know the true hardships those people had to endure & it's a lot easier to vine about it online but those people made the ultimate sacrifice while the ones who was responsible for that crisis were spending a luxurious life with anything & everything they want.

No disrespect for your mother mate. But such evidence is not legit. Sri lankan community health care is quite good. Death by starvation is a serious thing. So if occurred it would be a statistic. The instances which your mother described could be due to some other cause which is attributed to dismay towards the government.

If the communist governments kept records of true stats the sun will rise from the west. My mom's family was very much pro-SLFP so I don't think they'll lie about such a thing.
