Actually, the most significant event was a Indonesian volcano blast that happened during the early Middle Ages. This blast was so loud that it was heard even as far as China, and the volcano obliterated its cone and gave millions of tons of ashes to the atmosphere. This blanketed the entire earth and led to a cold winter and draught. It was said that the sun was dimmed for about two years and the temperature was lower, hence it was said that the bacterium that causes the plague was starting to spread and infect people rapidly. This caused the infamous black death of the Middle Ages and wiped out 3/4 of the population of Europe and hundreds of thousands of people in Asia. and causes great famine in Américas that wiped out the entire civilization in Mexico. Due to famine, this escalated the downfall of the Roman empire, which created a void that gave space for the spreading of Islam. Furthermore, it was the beginning of the Middle Ages, and this was also the reason for the Baminithisa famine here in Sri Lanka.

The Baminithiyasaya 103-89 BC, predates the Indonesian volcanic explosion 1257, Thank you @llrajitha for correction.
