True, by this logic 747-400 of Lufthansa must be a death trap.
They probably went for A330 ceo due to cheaper lease and high availability. A330 neos are notoriously rare and given these are leased aircrafts not brought from manufacturer i'm assuming it would have been near impossible to lease a new A330 neo.

You are spot on. A330-200 are classic models and can run even another two decades or more with proper maintenance.Nonsense. There are 40-year old aircraft that are being used in Europe and USA without any problems. It all depends on maintenance. Old planes don't crash. Frontier Airlines in USA still flies a Boeing 737 built in 1978. Lufthansa still has a fleet of 747 built in 1990s.
But the problem here is why did they go for an A330-200? This is a useless aircraft with an inefficient engine, high structural weight and low passenger capacity. A330 Neo could have been the obvious choice if they wanted to stick to A330. Otherwise A350 would be a better option (although I hate travelling in A350s. They are uncomfortable).
RW didn’t really care about the public backlash. He just wanted UL gone. His schoolmate Suren Ratwatte was the one who benefited the most from all these deals. After canceling the Airbus deal, Suren sold off UL’s premium slots in Milan, Paris, and Frankfurt for dirt cheap. He was even planning to give away most of the subcontinent slots to Emirates which were basically UL’s bread and butter. And when Suren finally left, he made sure he and his extended family walked away with lifetime business class tickets. You are spot on. A330-200 are classic models and can run even another two decades or more with proper maintenance.
We are beggars and do not have choices , so go for the cheapest ! We had good opportunity to lease better aircrafts in 2022 just after covid and this attempt of the then Board was stalled due to JVP accusing them of corruption and ..... and RW cancelled the proposal due to public anger due to misinformation from JVP false propaganda machine!
So now have to settle for cheaper option. There is no safety issue on this model as it is one of the best but inefficient.
