බුදුන් වහන්සේ පහළ වෙන්න කලින් තිබුනේ බමුණු සෘෂිවරු විසින් සමාජයේ මිනිසා හික්මවන්න ප්‍රචාරය කල "වේරමනී" සීල. වේරමනී කියන්නේ වෙන්වීම. උදාහරණයක් වශයෙන් පානාතිපාතා වේරමනී ... කියලා පටන් ගන්න සිල් පදයෙන් කියන්නේ මම සතුන් මැරීමේ පාපයෙන් වෙන්වී (වේරමනී) සිටින්න පොරුන්දු වීම්.
