Lumb is an ECE research scientist at School of Engineering and Applied Science, George Washington University.

He and his team has developed solar cells that can capture 99% of the solar energy received, and convert 44.5% of that into electricity.

Compare that with 25% efficiency of the top solar cells today, and 12%-17% efficiency of regular solar panels.

We can’t capture all the energy from the sun yet. But we are getting there. Fast.

Heat reduces the efficiency of electrical output of PV panels, so cooling the panels by providing for airflow under the panels can improve their power output.
