    ECO mode:
    - no use on the highway (equivalent to engine braking, will slow you down fast)
    - under normal city driving can work well at speeds close to 40 mph. It seem to disable the rear motor and use more of regenerative braking and battery
    - most useful in slow traffic. At 20mph automatically turns on the EV mode but drain the battery really fast and can be ebven detrimental to your mpg.

    EV mode:
    - from what I gathered it's most useful when you are really low on gas or during some mechanical emergency and trying to get to the gas station or other safe location. It will last actually less than a mile and drain your battery fast.
    - Works at speeds of 30mpg (slowing down) and below.

    GAmPAha.......
When u are using EV mode ur vehicle can drive up to limit of 60Km/h. The energy directly came through battery...when it reaches beyond 60 km/h vehicle automatically goes to hybrid (normal mode) and EV bulb will shut off

You have more than half of your battery energy to engage EV mode..The developers of toyota company say that using of EV mode often will reduce your battery life...So it is better always drive in hybrid mode

These all are experienced my own and It is 2nd gen 2008 prius..and prius only has EV mode...
    Hope this will help you
