Jeppo kiyanne ehema thamayi ban. Okun salli tyena unta irisiya karala, karanna tyena keri weda okkoma karala, tawath ekekta kelawala goda yanna hadana un neh. 88/89 okun wiplawe kiyala kaleth gamea hondata kaala andala indapu upper middle class eke minihata shot eka deela sathutu wuna eka neh.

Okunta success wenna skill ekak neti nisa success unta kelawala uuwa tamunge level ekata adala satisfy wena eka neh okun kale. E pawa tamai okunta pala denne. I could feel for you. However as much as terrible things happened in the 88/89, it is not an isolated incident. Meaning, there were global forces leading up to that insurrection such as the US hate as a dominat force, spread of communism and Vietnam war, Che Guevara movement in Latin America, Hippies etc.,

We all have different opinions about everything but we cannot be disrespectful to our neighbour as "respect" is everything.

For eg that car and bike accident yesterday and the for and against opinions mentioned by EK members, in respectful and disrespectful manner

In the absence of "respect" it needs to be enforced via Law.

On a positive note, compared to 88/89, I observe that SL now has more freedom for citizens to do what they like cuz the society naturally learned from those atrocities and moved forward..

JVP had no excuse for what they’ve done in 88/89. Even though the LTTE had some excuse for what they’ve done, JVP don’t. And even JVPs were apologising for what they’ve done for 10-15 years until the so called “educated professionals” of this country began to praise them.

1st of all, tell me what valid, fair reasons that led JVPs to do what they did? For Tamils, I get the point (even though the real problem was the Bandaranaike’s economic reforms which decreased the opportunities for the growing crowd of educated youth) of being discriminated. JVP goons had no such issue. If you can carefully refer to the history, you won’t find any justifiable reason for JVPs to riot.

Even if they wanted to take over the country by an attack, they should’ve done that the correct way. Even LTTE were taking the right approach compared to the JVP goons. LTTE was fighting with the army in a war zone?? Name a single battle that JVP fought with the Sri Lankan army. Nothing. Mahaa Bathmutti hatana???

Even according to the law of war, what JVP did was inhumane. When a group is behaving like that, the only option the government has is to execute them. They’re not supposed to invite wijeweera for a dinner and discuss. And in reality it is understandable that’s there were no trials for all who got executed. Because, if there’s going to be trials, there’s no time to stop country from collapsing, avoid public property from being damaged by JVPs.

Only solution was to kill JVPs on the spot. I do not accept violence, torture. But I do know how to realise the reality.

    I never approved violence

All I mentioned was JVP insurrection was not an isolated incident in SL but the effects of a global phenomenon existed at that time

At the end of the day, we need to move forward as a country, leaving the past behind - every country on earth has a bloody past FYI

At the same time whoever guilty needs to be punished or may have already been punished but we don't want to keep resurfacing the atrocities, polarising our view

And about your following comments, I believe it's well known that the Army was heavily involved as things were way out of control for the Police (just like Pablo Escobar's Cocaine mayhem in Columbia at the same era and the involvement of DEA in the US) and please be careful with thinking extra-judicial actions, sort problems as there are many stories of unjustified killings of completely innocent civilians back then..

    - Name a single battle that JVP fought with the Sri Lankan army.

    - Only solution was to kill JVPs on the spot
